Multidisciplinary center for children with hearing loss.

About This Cause

Mission The Micha Multidisciplinary Center for Children with Hearing Loss (Beit Micha), is a non-profit organization founded in 1953 by Dr. Ezra Korine, and so became the pioneer institution in the field of pediatric hearing loss in Israel. As Director of the Audiology Clinic at Sheba Hospital and a renown visionary and leader in the field of hearing loss, Dr. Korine became aware of the dire need for early diagnosis of hearing loss in order to increase the chances of deaf and hard of hearing children to develop on par with their hearing peers and to integrate into hearing society. Our mission is, and always has been, to enable children with hearing loss to acquire language, speech and communication skills, so that they can integrate into the hearing society and more specifically to integrate into the mainstream public school system, and take their place as equals in society, regardless of their disability and with the far-reaching communication skills and self-esteem that will enable them to maximize their potential. . In fact, approximately 88% of our graduates integrate into the mainstream public school system in the first grade. The majority completes their academic studies and attains impressive achievements, both socially and professionally. At Beit Micha, every infant and his or her family is provided with a personalized audiological, educational, therapeutic and rehabilitative treatment plan.   Activity & Operations Every year, Beit Micha serves over 700 children with hearing loss and their families, from infancy to seven years of age, making it the largest single center of its kind in Israel. The Audiological Unit Our facility in Tel Aviv conducts over 2,500 audiological tests per year. The audiological examination is one of the most important steps in the diagnostic process, which aims to examine the child's response to speech and sounds. Examining young children and infants requires much expertise and patience, alongside state-of-the-art equipment. The examination is conducted by two expert pediatric audiologists and requires the child's cooperation, expressed by play or by a physical reaction to sound. Beit Micha's highly qualified pediatric audiologists are experts at diagnosing infants. International Support Beit Micha enjoys the support of donors from both Israel and abroad, including individuals, corporations and foundations. Throughout the years we have received donations from the Jewish communities in the United States.   Contact Adi Geva Community relation manager, Beit Micha 23 Reading St., Tel Aviv 6902421 Israel adig@michata.org.il
