Mission Statement
Promote children's safety, and injury prevention
About This Cause
Beterem- Safe Kids Israel was founded in 1995 at the Schneider Children's Medical Center in Israel. Our team specialize in community work, research and development, data collection, project management, public policy, public relations, raising awareness and digital marketing. Beterem is the only organization in Israel which has raised the banner and taken it upon itself to introduce and promote a culture of safety for children from the time they are born until the age pf 18. Beterem's main goal is to reduce the magnitude of injury of children from all kinds of unintentional injuries, to generate change in injury patterns in all realms of life (home and yard, educational institutions, roads and public spaces), and to raise public awareness on this matter. With this purpose in mind, Beterem operates on international, national and local levels, while combining a variety of proven strategies and methods of action. Beterem's expertise is distinct from other organizations which do not specialize in children or deal with injury prevention in one field of injuries (primarily road safety), in one sector or one strategy of action. During more than 25 years of operation, together with its partners, Beterem has managed to generate a decline of 53% in child mortality from accidents. In 2003, Beterem was recognized by the government of Israel as the leading player in the field of child safety. Subsequently, Beterem is part of a joint venture with the government to promote pilot projects and special initiatives for preventing injuries to children in the State of Israel. Beterem serves as the official representative on behalf of the Israel Ministry of Health in the European umbrella organization for child safety, the European Child Safety Alliance (ECSA). Likewise, Beterem is the Israeli representative of the international organization, Safe Kids Worldwide (SKW). Beterem leads programs and multi-systemic steps in its areas of expertise, integrating the governmental-public sector, the business sector and not-for-profit organizations. In its work with government ministries and national authorities, such as the Ministry of Economy and the National Authority for Road Safety, Beterem works on a tender-exempt basis due to its particular expertise in its field. Beterem initiates and promotes legislation and regulation in the field of child safety, takes part in public forums and national committees dealing with a range of aspects of safety (legislation, standardization, programs, etc.), develops and conducts intervention programs which are culturally adapted, and is responsible for writing and publishing the biannual "Report to the Nation – Injury of Children in Israel", as well as for the publication of a variety of studies and professional position papers in the field.
