Mission Statement
Ccibo Maremma is a promotion community. Its main objective is the PROTECTION OF AGRI-FOOD BIODIVERSITY against genetic erosion, and the products obtained from it for the benefit of the Community itself. CCIBO promotes and enhances agroecological productions through a NETWORK in the territory of GUARDIAN FARMERS (they are farmers who conserve and reproduce food plants at risk of extinction), TRANSFORMERS, RESEARCH CENTERS and SCHOOLS. The main goal of this network is to make known the extensive biodiversity of the Maremma area (Tuscany – Italy), the culture and the territory that host it and to defend the right and sustainable food. Our values and what we do 1. the conservation of genetic resources of local food and agricultural interest and the transmission of knowledge about them, the study and recovery, encouraging the meeting between researchers and ethical entrepreneurs in order to create and promote, with the participation of the whole community correct information on environmental issues, which also includes the birth/foundation of our investigation and research tool to create ever more awareness and culture; 2. the gastronomic enhancement of little-known genetic resources, also at the catering and marketing level, underlining their organoleptic, nutraceutical and cultural qualities; 3. the study and dissemination of practices typical of organic farming and other low environmental impact cultivation systems aimed at saving water, reducing the emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, maintaining and increasing soil fertility; application of low entropy cultivation and farming methods, safeguarding soil fertility and water purity, reducing external outputs to the agroecosystem, study of agroecological practices that can improve the ability of crop systems to resist climate change and they can increase the biodiversity of the agro-ecosystem; 4. custody of the territory, of traditional knowledge relating to agricultural crops and cultural traditions related to food and agricultural and alimentary biodiversity; 5. particular attention to the participatory selection of seeds and propagation material in general, suitable for the territory and to cope with climatic changes and proper nutrition; 6. education and training in the environment and agricultural practices, social aggregation, redevelopment of abandoned or degraded areas and marginal agricultural land 7. create economic, production and distribution systems through the dissemination of principles of cooperation, solidarity and circular economy, passing from the concept of consumer to that of user; 8. activate the participatory guarantee system as a wealth of acquired knowledge to be shared with the entire community; 9. to restore food sovereignty to each individual and people, or the right to decide their own food and production system, by accessing healthy, nutritious, culturally adequate foods with principles of social and environmental sustainability; 10. promoting social cohesion, inclusion, intergenerational and multicultural exchange, solidarity. Ensuring sharing, respect for differences and civil rights: a model of social innovation that, starting from local needs, becomes a source of inspiration for new human, organizational and economic connections for the benefit of the territory; 11. enter into synergy with other realities to find forms of collaboration in support of old and new supply chains; 12. always ensure the just remuneration of producers and reject goods that derive from the exploitation of people, thus guaranteeing the fair price.
