Mission Statement
The mission of Balon Mundial Onlus is working for the promotion of people and cultural identities, using sport as a tool for aggregation and participation, as well as an opportunity for training and education. Through the collaboration with local institutions, we contribute to the implementation of public policies by working for the prevention of social exclusion, racism and discrimination. We work to build a cohesive and inclusive society, where differences are not obstacles but strengths. We promote world cultures by stimulating the active citizenship and participation of resident communities - the migrant and the Italian - in democratic life. We promote a culture of rules, applying in our initiatives the principle of fair play and encouraging respect for others. We support sport as a method for promoting healthy lifestyles and we promote sports and education for all.
About This Cause
A.S.D. Balon Mundial Onlus non-profit organisation was founded in Turin in 2012. Balon Mundial deals with the promotion of an inclusive society through the activation of people and communities with empowerment programs developed with sport. All of the Association's activities (sports, education, training and advocacy) are designed to enhance sport as a tool for social inclusion, education for fair play and anti-discrimination. The vehicle mainly used by the association is football, the most popular sport in the world. Football is able to unite cultures from all over the world by breaking down any kind of prejudice and social status and creating a meeting place free of discrimination and beyond of all genders, ages, cultures, ethnicities and professions. Even before the birth of the association itself, the target of the sporting activities have been the migrant communities of all genders and ages. In fact, since 2007 Balon Mundial has created a unique football tournament in Turin that is economically accessible, bringing together more than 40 teams representing migrant communities in Turin. Since 2016 Balon Mundial has been part of the Common Goal network as the only Italian non-profit organisation, a network that brings together more than 100 organisations around the world that work daily with sport for social change, inclusion and integration. This collaboration has allowed Balon Mundial Onlus to bring football3 in Italy and to organise initiatives (conferences, workshops and sports activities) with F.A.R.E. (football against racism in europe) Network during the “FARE Action weeks” and with the football vs homophobia network. The creation of networks and the work in national and international networks has allowed the development of innovative methodologies of non-formal education through sport. Nowadays the association offers sports activities in schools, involving children and adolescents aiming to encourage aggregation, participation, promote diversity and cultural identities. Balon Mundial does not work exclusively with migrants and minors, but it also promotes gender equity in sport. It was in fact the only Italian association selected to be part of the adidas Breaking Barriers project in 2020. The project aims to break down the barriers that girls and women (across Europe) face in sport environments. Balon Mundial also collaborate with local public and private bodies as experts in social inclusion policies: the main collaborations are with UISP - Italian Union Sports for All of which; Arci; the Piedmont Region - Integration and Equal Opportunities Department; the UNAR - Anti-Discrimination National Office and the Italian National Youth Agency. The association's target is therefore very varied: every year more than 7,000 people of all ages and nationalities are involved in our programmes. Some initiatives aim to involve exclusively the migrant communities residing in the Turin area and/or recently arrived migrants, other initiatives are dedicated to an exclusively female and non-binary target, with a view to gender equity and equal opportunities. Still other projects see the involvement of school classes in educational-sports activities to promote inclusion, fair play and anti-discrimination.
