About This Cause

MAIS is a secular, independent, and nonprofit organization that has been active since 1987, through distance support (DS), to promote the education of those children who, because of poverty and social inequality, do not attend school. It also promotes self-development through micro-projects in the local communities where children live. MAIS promotes the education of more than 1250 children in Argentina, Brazil, India, Madagascar, South Africa and eSwatini: it has more than 2000 members across the country. Thanks to its DS, children and young people living in countries where education is still considered a luxury, have access to primary and secondary schooling, including tertiary for those who have the skills. To date, 70% of the youth supported by MAIS has successfully entered the labour market. The DS is integrated with self-development micro-projects in favor of the local community like, for example, the agricultural project in Madagascar, the clinic and educational center in eSwatini and numerous courses like sewing, computer, mechanic, beekeeping, etc. Working in favor of minors also means taking into account the problem of orphans, often due to HIV/AIDS. In recent years, as part of various projects, we have opened 4 foster homes where orphans and children, whose parents are unable to take care of them, are hosted. MAIS relies on the help of 7 local project managers, 40 volunteers and only 2 people being employed full time.
