Mission Statement
With a global population of 7.5 billion a troubling irony persists: almost two billion people are overweight, obese, or have lifestyle-related diseases like diabetes and chronic heart conditions while one billion people suffer from malnutrition. World food production should adequately feed all of us, yet there remains tremendous inequality to food access and distribution. TABLE FOR TWO (TFT) addresses this global nutrition imbalance to benefit those suffering on both ends of the nutrition spectrum. TFT promotes healthy eating to those in the developed world and serves warm school meals to undernourished children in the developing world.
About This Cause
TFT works with 700 partners, such as corporate cafeterias, university dining halls, government institutions, and restaurants throughout the developed world. For every meal sold by our partnering teams in Japan, the United States, Germany and several other countries, $0.25 (US) is donated to TFT. With these funds, we are able to serve school meals to nearly 20,000 school children in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. TFT is proud to have provided more than 105 million meals to date. In the corporate and well-fed settings of the developed world, TFT is able to teach about global nutritional imbalances and social justice in an effective and visible way. Lunch time for an employee or student grows to be more. From cafeterias and restaurants, undernourished children in underdeveloped nations are also fed. The added benefits of feeding these children are tangible. Our research indicates that children who receive TFT meals are able to go to school and stay in school compared to communities that lack this type of food assistance. TFT school meals provide essential nutrition and lead to attentiveness in the classroom and retention in school. TFT has seen a ripple effect on adults in the community as well. For example, the number of students attending the four elementary schools in Rusinga Islands, Kenya increased by 15% within the first year of participation with TFT. We believe that with a good nutritional foundation, student achievement grows. More students have finished their primary education, through TFT’s support and better prepared for their secondary studies. In Uganda, only children with requisite examination scores are able to move on to secondary schools. The number of students who were able to advance to secondary schools increased by 50% when TFT started the feeding program.
