We are working together with local governments and student/corporate volunteers to help our students find their way for future and become self-reliant individuals. We do believe that Kids'Door has strong impacts to the benefit of Japan society in terms of tackling child poverty issues and trying to attain educational equality.

About This Cause

Kids'Door is a pioneer in Japan to address the issue of 'child poverty in Japan'. Kids'Door has been taking the initiative in focusing on that problem and offering free education to children from low-income families who cannot afford enough learning environment due to financial difficulties. Kids'Door reaches out to children from elementary through high school and also to the youth who are not in education or employment, including high school dropouts. We strongly believe that children's academic skills should not be affected by their parents' income levels and are striving to alleviate education gap generated by the difference of parent income levels by conducting intensive and continual study sessions and providing various opportunities, such as workshops in collaboration with our sponsored companies and entry for English speech contests. Kids'Door is on a mission to attain equality of educational opportunity in Japan and to realize a society where all children can have their dreams and hope. Kids'Door is expanding its activities through partnership with municipal governments and support of so many enthusiastic corporate and student volunteers. We have been seeing many positive outcomes. We have been aiming towards achieving 100% high school enrollment rate that is not compulsory schooling here in Japan, and we are very proud to say that this goal has been accomplished in all our serving areas of studying sessions for junior- high- school students. And we will keep at it since attaining education in those formative years will be vital for our students for both further education at college/university and joining the workforce straight out of school. Kids'Door conducts unique events such as career counselling and hands-on activity conducted in English jointly with large corporations such as Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs and Accenture Japan. Our English study session called 'English Drive',which is our voluntary business, with strong patronage of foreign companies touched on above ,has also been receiving positive feedback from corporate volunteers directly involved and our students attending the sessions. We are informed that some of our students from low-income families in junior high and senior high school have begun to have big dreams such as studying abroad, going to the college in the U.S. and working for foreign companies. Those students are actually applying for sponsored programs and getting the opportunity to study abroad and are also applying for English speech contests. At the workshop held in cooperation with the Bank of America Merrill Lynch employees, some of our students at English Drive gave speech to the employees in English about their future dreams and they got detailed feedback and advice on their future careers from actively working employees. It was a great opportunity to enhance the students' motivation to learn English and also was a reciprocal for the employees to know the students had become more positive in their English learning. Similarly, we have received positive feedback from the corporation that held the career counselling program jointly with Kids'Door for underprivileged high school students who come to our study session. One of the employees attended the program says that it is one of the most popular volunteering programs for them to give their skills to provide help for the benefit of Japan society as a corporate citizen. Also the students say that receiving advice and guidelines from the active employees makes them feel positive towards their future dreams and will help them take action for their future goals. We think it very important to build bonds between students, volunteers and local communities. We will continue to provide free education for children in need of help and to help them pave the path towards becoming self-reliant,independent individuals.
