About This Cause
ANIGA is an Acronym for “Alliance for Networking Innovation and grassroots’ Advancement” we are a Community-Based Organization (CBO) working in Kenya-Kisumu County. We are a women led Organization dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable communities through sustainable agriculture, food security, education, health, environmental conservation, women and youth empowerment. We work closely with local communities, international partners, and indigenous organizations to develop long-term solutions that address systemic challenges such as poverty, food insecurity, gender inequality, and climate change. Our Approach We use participatory development methods, ensuring that communities take an active role in decision-making and project implementation. By fostering community-led solutions and leveraging strategic partnerships, we drive sustainable change that empowers individuals and transforms livelihoods. OUR FOCUS AREAS & ACHIEVEMENTS: 1. Food Security & Nutrition - Implemented a solar drying project to reduce post-harvest losses and add value to Orange Fleshed Sweet Potatoes(OFSP). However, our current locally made solar dryer, constructed with polythene, has limitations in efficiency, durability, and capacity. This affects the quality and quantity of dried products, limiting our ability to scale up processing and distribution. To enhance food preservation, improve product quality, and increase processing capacity, we aim to upgrade to a more efficient and durable solar drying system. - Developed Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato (OFSP) products, including Puree, Porridge, crisps and flour, to combat malnutrition, particularly among young children, pregnant and lactating mothers. - Established a vine multiplication center, distributing high-quality sweet potato vines to farmers to improve yields and enhance household nutrition. 2. Women & Youth Empowerment - Advocated for women and youth rights, ensuring their participation in decision-making processes at the community level. - Provided income-generating activities for 20 HIV-infected and affected support groups, empowering them to support widows and orphans. - Constructed houses for widows and orphans through strategic partnerships, ensuring they have a safe and dignified living environment. - Empowered youths with employability skills and encouraging participation in sports by providing essential gear ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial constraints. 3. Education & Literacy - Mobilized funds through strategic partnerships to construct a library/resource center, benefiting 600+ children and youths by improving access to learning materials and educational support. - Distributed sanitary pads (Dignity Package) to over 500 girls, improving school attendance and ensuring girls do not miss out on education due to menstrual challenges. 4. Access to Clean Water & Health - Drilled a borehole, providing clean and safe drinking water to about 700 beneficiaries, reducing waterborne diseases and relieving women and girls from long-distance water collection. - Hosted international medical volunteers, providing free healthcare services and medical supplies to underserved communities. 5. Environmental Conservation & Climate Resilience - Produced and distributed over 1,000 energy-saving cook stoves to women in Seme Sub-County, reducing reliance on firewood and lowering indoor air pollution. - Promoted sustainable farming practices, including permaculture training for community members to improve soil health and agricultural productivity.
