Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide education, food, medical attention and other life changing necessities to children in desperate situations. We strive to break the cycle of poverty, abuse, ignorance and help children to become positive, productive and self-fulfilled members of the society with opportunity and hope for the future.
About This Cause
This a project that provides food and educational needs to hundreds of the poorest of children in Kaswanga village, Rusinga Island, Homa bay county. The school motto is “strive to excel”. This is a school that helps provide for the education and wellbeing of orphans and vulnerable children. The school has a total number of 165 children from different homes within the community who are orphans and vulnerable. Children come from various family situations. Some are orphans, and some are social orphans; that is to say they have parents, but due to the prevalent poverty, illiteracy, and the destitution of the country they have no one to provide basic care for them, and would otherwise have nowhere to turn for help. The sole purpose of the Centre is to serve children from vulnerable families in Rusinga Island. It’s just not simply a Centre for those forgotten, orphaned, vulnerable abused, abandoned and hungry children but a place where character is nurtured and hope given to these hopeless children. We espouse the fact that Education is the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another and it’s the focus of Milman Iattract and it remains one of our goals to remain true to the fact that quality and affordable access to education is more than a luxury; it is a responsibility that the society owes to itself. This is where these children learn to know the value of a family in which they are cared for, loved and educated until such a time they will be able to take care of themselves and their own future families in the society. We look forward to having you as our donor and to contribute to the future of these kids in the form of books, stationery, foodstuffs, clothes and money to uplift their standards. Any form of contribution towards us will be highly appreciated. We also invite sponsors, volunteers, churches and private companies to donate to the work of these children as they engage in corporate social responsibilities in Kenya and beyond. Thank you in advance for your generous consideration. Let’s join hands for the sake of these children, "Be your brother’s keeper. OBJECTIVE To break the cycle of poverty by providing holistic development to impoverish orphans and communities in Rusinga, through meeting their physical, educational, spiritual and social needs. To challenge and equip children to live productive and responsible lives. Other objectives To provide hope to the hopeless situations of the disadvantaged children in Rusinga by providing food, clothing, shelter, education and sanitation. To increase the level of literacy among children with the aim of expanding their opportunities for self-reliance by providing and promoting basic education. To safeguard the rights of orphans and vulnerable children against any form of violation. To provide orphans and vulnerable children with access to the basic human needs including food, healthcare, clothing and education. The school impoverished orphans in Kenya (many due to AIDS) are in need of care and education. When children lose their parents to an illness like AIDS, a relative generally takes in the child and cares for them. When no relative is able to care for a child, they are forced to live on the street and for that child, all hope is lost. Life is hard enough for a child in Kenya, but with no one to care for them; they are the poorest of the poor. Poverty in childhood is a root cause of poverty in adulthood. Impoverished children often grow up to be impoverished parents who in turn bring up their own children in poverty. In order to break the generational cycle, poverty reduction must begin with children. Milman Iattract is breaking this poverty cycle. By helping the absolute poorest of the poor, we can make the greatest impact on society. With childhood being the foundation of the world’s future; as orphan’s lives are changed… so will it be with the generations that follow them. Our vision of is that the children and families whose lives we touch with care will realise their full potential and experience brighter tomorrow, in part due to the caring, nurturing and learning atmosphere of the Academy. At the school we provide the children with: Tuition Breakfast and lunch Medical care Spiritual guidance clothing We intend to establish boarding (accommodation) when funds are available. Our core values Respect for children’s rights. Transparency, accountability and justice Service and dedication to the well-being of children. Integrity and honesty in the discharge of our mandate. Professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness Non discrimination Equality and fairness Partnership, collaboration and networking Rusinga Island Rusinga Island in Lake Victoria where the project is situated is a community in Kenya with one of the highest percentages of HIV/AIDS. The migratory nature of workers in the fishing industry and the practices of jaboya or fish for sex trade contribute greatly to the spread of HIV/AIDS in the area. Local cultural practices of polygamy and wife inheritance are likewise contributors. Women and children share the most difficult plight, often orphaned or widowed by HIV/AIDS, with no way to financially support themselves. In the island, many children have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS or other causes. Although some orphans are cared for by family members or relatives, many of these families are living in poverty and cannot support an additional child. Some form of external assistance is required to provide these children with adequate food, health care, clothing, education and psychological support. Challenges The institution has been receiving many children over time and the funding has increasingly become a challenge. Some of these children stay with poor families and only survive on one meal in a day (the one provided at the school) hence malnutrition. teachers and other staff salaries to help run the school lack of electricity and water at the institution The organization has got a scholarship proogram that supports children post primary. it helps these orphans to proceed with their education to join high school and colleges. we are appealing to well wishers for support here too. We are also running an environmental program that is run by the children, to help them to teach them how to save the mother earth. The tree nursery is within the school compound.
