About This Cause
Akilokony community based organization is registered community based in Kenya under ministry of East Africa Community, Labour and Social Protection, State Department of Social Development .AKILOKONY CBO is charity that promotes volunteering as a powerful and practical way to tackle poverty and inequality in marginalized rural communities in Turkana County in Africa.Akilokony is alocal name meaning to empower the vulnerable in the pastoral communities in Turkana. ACBO is an implementing organization not a funding institution. ACBO builds the capacity of pastoral communities living a cross Turkana County in preventing and mitigating of hazards of target communities at risk. Anchored by a community managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) approach and guided by beliefs that communities we work with should be the center of their own development trajectory .we implement practical programs that enable pastoral development, empowerment and wellbeing. Vision: Realization of sustainable WASH services and scaling up of maternal and child Nutrition. Mission: Ensure equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water and sanitation and eradicate malnutrition among children under five years. Thematic areas to implement; 1. Community emergency interventions such as natural disasters • Distribution of emergency relief supplies to the affected communities in Turkana such as food stuffs and medical supplies. 2. Education programs • Scholarship for vulnerable students in Turkana • school feeding program in ECDE centers • supplies of learning materials such as books to the pastoral communities in Turkana 3. Water, sanitation and Hygiene promotions programs • Promoting rain water harvesting • Establishment of underground water harvesting tanks • Drilling of boreholes as well as rehabilitation of water pans and shallow wells • Ending open defecation through community awareness and sharing information. • Empowering communities on good hygiene to reduce the prevalence of diarrhea and diseases 4. Health and nutrition program • Community integrated medical outreaches • Training of health workers and community volunteers on emerging health issues • Taking lead to support in Supplentation of vitamin A and Deworms campaigns to children under five years 5. Environment and Natural resources management • Support capacity building for local communities to properly deal with the impacts of climate changes. • Empower the locals to Improve food production through modern agricultural techniques.
