< Vision > A Global Health NGO committed to professionalism and not aligned with any religious or political beliefs in pursuit of equal access to health for communities < Mission > Contribute to world peace by providing humanitarian assistance and healthcare to vulnerable populations, and by bringing public awareness to global efforts for universal access to health. < Core Values > Helping reduce absolute poverty Public health expertise Respect Diversity Public Interest ■ Enhancing Accessto Rehabilitation Treatment and Improving Quality of Life for Disabled Children in Central Vietnam • Project Period: Since 2014 • Project Region: Quang Tri Province, Vietnam • Project Background: - In Vietnam, people’s health varies depending on the region and individual socio-economic status - Quang Tri Province is a region that has been most affected by the spraying of herbicide Agent Orange during the Vietnam War that left countless victims who still suffer from its aftermaths; namely, poverty and isolation from medical care. - The Quang Tri Province Government has called out for support to improve the quality of rehabilitation treatment for dioxin victims and enhance the capacity of local therapists • Project Goals: - To improve access to rehabilitation treatment services, - To help prevent abandonment of disabled children and ensure sustainability of rehabilitation therapy through poverty reduction - To decrease the number disabled children isolated from rehabilitation treatment and training local therapists - To increase opportunities for rehabilitation treatment by breaking the vicious cycle of poverty • Partners and Collaborators - Republic of Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ROK MOFA) - Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) - Quang Tri Province People’s Committee, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Health, Department of Labor - People’s Committees of 9 districts of Quang Tri Province, district-level medical centers and health posts - Local NGOs (MCNV, Caritas) - Local DPOs(Disabled People’s Organization) Quang Tri Province Health College, Quang Tri Province Special School, Da Nang University of Foreign Languages ■ Capacity Building in Physical Therapy Education of the Quang Tri Medical College, Vietnam • Project Region: Quang Tri Province, Vietnam • Project Period: Since 2015- • Project Goals - To enhance the capacity of local physical therapy professionals - To enhance the quality of physical therapy services for local residents - To enhance the capacity of physical therapy education at local health college • Project Background: - Quang Tri Province is an extremely underdeveloped region in Vietnam. There is a need for more health professionals to meet the demand of the residents. Due to a shortage of budget for healthcare the province has difficulties expanding the rehabilitation infrastructure and staff members in local health facilities - This project helps Quang Tri Health College, the only educational institution for health in the province, enhance its physical therapy education capacity in order to enable the continuous training of local physical therapy professionals • Partners and Collaborators: - Republic of Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ROK MOFA) - Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Eulji University - Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Health, Department of Labor - Quang Tri Province Health College - MCNV ■ District Health System Strengthening through Maternal-Child Health Support in Iloilo Province, Philippines • Project Duration: Since March, 2015 • Project Objective : Improvement of Emergency Medical Service and Maternal and Child Health • Project Background : Due to constant natural disasters in the Philippines, there is a serious need for emergency care - There are many typhoons yearly affecting the Iloilo Province - Due to the insufficient ambulances, it is difficult to transport emergency patients : Municipal health centers need to provide timely care for emergency childbirth, such as CEmONC - The lack of ambulances make it difficult to transport mothers needing comprehensive emergency obstetric and neonatal care : The poor condition of barangay health stations - There is a serious lack of healthcare equipment - There is no birthing kit at the BHS for emergency situations where pregnant women cannot visit the RHU or the district hospital - There are still cases of childbirth where an untrained person assists the delivery process in unhygienic settings - There are still cases of home delivery and reliance on traditional birth attendants that have no medical knowledge • Collaborating partners - Korea: The Ministry of Interior, Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Headquarters, Seoul National University Hospital, and Raphael International - Philippines: Iloilo Provincial Government(Provincial Health Office), the Provincial Hospital, and District Hospitals ■ Tanzania Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) Obstetric and Neonatal Infection Prevention/Control and Capacity Building Project • Project Duration : Since January, 2014 • Project Goals: : To reduce the incidence rate of neonatal sepsis through improvement of infection control practice and capacity building • Project Background : Neonatal mortality rate, hovering at 26 per 1,000 live births : 60% of newborn infants admitted to the MRRH are suffering from sepsis and in terms of the causes of death, 25% are due to infections : There is a shortage of healthcare personnel, such as OB/GYN specialists, and there is a low level of awareness on infection control : Deaths from infections could be prevented by simply applying basic hygiene and sanitation practice, by educating/training pregnant mothers and healthcare personnel on infection prevention/control, and by enhancing hospital infection surveillance system as well as epidemiological investigation capacity. • Collaborating partners - KOICA, Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospital, Kinondoni Municipal Council, Comprehensive Community-Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania, and JHPIEGO ■ Project for the Improvement of Water and Sanitation in Central Region of Senegal • Project Duration : Since November, 2015 • Project Objectives : To improve the quality of life for women by reducing the time to spend transporting water for daily use : To reduce the burden of water-borne illnesses such as diarrhea among children under 5 • Project Background : The first phase of the project was implemented from 2010 to 2014 through KOICA support : Although many rural areas in Senegal are experiencing shortage of drinking-water in general due to the increase in population and geographical factors, the situation is much worse in the central region : The project sites are isolated areas that are located far away from the cities, and the traditional wells used by community residents are prone to contamination from external sources, resulting in water-borne diseases. In addition, access to even the traditional wells is difficult for some villages as some of them are located 6 to 8 km away : The lack of clean, safe water also affects the livelihood of many who rely on livestock farming as the livestock do not have any drinking water during the dry season (between November and May) • Collaborating partners : KOICA, Jeil Engineering Co., Ltd, : Senegal Ministry of Water and Sanitation; local governments
