About This Cause

The center has been active since 2012, when we started our first meetings at Muniškės Elderly’s home, the Pagynė Children's Home, Pranas Daunys Center for the Education of the Blind and the Visually Impaired. It is in these institutions that our serious work with regard to dog therapy began. The official registration date of Kaniterapines Pagalbos centras is July 17, 2014. It has 20 members and 17 different breeds of dogs which have passed the Canine Character Test approved by Samoyed Club of Slovakia Deparment of Canisteraphy. Our volunteer team members visit the elderly home, orphanages and other social care institutions. Based on the 2015 agreement, we cooperate with the Clinic of Children's Diseases, Clinic of Children's Diseases, Clinic of Children's Clinics, and Clinic of Neurology Clinic for Children and Adolescents, Clinic of Adult Oncology and Hematology. We provide free dog therapy services to the patients of these clinics. We are the first participants in dog therapy research on hyperactive children, old people and people with mental disorders. Together with the LSMU Department of Health Psychology, we conducted research on the effects of dog therapy on children with the oncological disease and their parents. The results were published in the monthly journal LITHUANIAN GENERAL PRACTICE DOCTOR. No. 10 for family doctors and those intending to become general practitioners. We have also researched hyperactive children with the LSMU Sports University. In September 2016 the results were presented in the International Scientific Conference "HESDIA - 2016". In the same year the contract was also signed with the Children's Hospital, Santara Clinic.
