About This Cause
Centre for Youth and Development is a local developmental Non-Governmental Organization with an innovative people-led approach to delivering Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a vision of a society where children, youth and women living in their full potential are powerful agents of change for healthy and empowered communities. We were established in 2012. Today we are one of Malawi’s growing local NGOs, working in partnership with local government and communities. Over the years we have developed a trusted reputation with beneficiaries, communities, partners, local councils and funding partners and significant experience in implementation of Education, Health, Empowerment and Puma rights programs. Centre for Youth and Development's work improves life chances for children youth and their families in some of the poorest rural areas in Malawi, helping thousands of people escape the cycle of poverty. We focus on increasing access to education, as well as building up life skills, access to health and livelihood opportunities and promoting inclusion for the most marginalised. Our vision is one where all where children, youth and women living in their full potential are powerful agents of change for healthy and empowered communities. We take both a top-down and bottom-up approach to transform communities, supporting broad system change while recognising the need for more tailored, localised support to overcome specific challenges. Our theory of change includes three “steps,” simplified as follows: Step 1: Inspire and empower children, youth, and women to be agents of change for themselves and their society. Step 2: As agents of change, they can positively change their own lot and their society’s environment, such as changing policies, laws, services, and social structures. Step 3: As a result, these changes are sustainable (more resilient) in the face of future challenges. Centre for Youth and Development identifies with three main priorities, which are education, health, and economic development. The most foundational is education. Ensuring basic health and Economic development are aimed at enabling families and communities to support continued education efforts Centre for Youth and Development is fully registered in Malawi as a company limited by guarantee -Registration Number 13291 and with the NGO Board Registration Number NGO/L/17/091 and with offices in Mzuzu, Rumphi and Lilongwe and experience in delivering work in 14 Districts across Malawi.
