Youth & the Environment. Vision: M-Kids envisions a society where “No child is left behind” is a reality. M-Kids aspires to a society where: • All children have equal access to basic needs of modern living; • All children feel safe and supported at all times; • And the most vulnerable children are afforded protection and opportunities through affirmative policies and actions.

About This Cause

History: In the early 2000s, a group of empathetic teenagers observed their peers falling victim to drugs and poverty, missing crucial milestones in their adolescence. Driven by a collective concern, they initiated efforts to combat substance abuse and child poverty, giving rise to a grassroots organisation with strong community support. From 2002 to 2010, this grassroots organisation, later known as M-KIDS, provided vital services, including remedial classes and outreach programmes for children and youth. These efforts culminated in the official registration of the association in 2010. Guided by Imaam Arshad Joomun’s leadership, the organisation expanded, establishing a learning centre dedicated to vulnerable children, especially those from broken households. Committed to comprehensive support, the Association ensures equal educational opportunities for children. Notably, it has positively impacted over 10,000 individuals through diverse initiatives, job creation, and empowerment programmes, marking two decades of dedicated service as of December 2023. Overview of Programmes and Initiatives: At the moment, M-Kids is currently engaged in several activities, such as: Educational Programmes: We have several activities under this programme, they are all aimed at reinforcing vulnerable children’s education, ensuring that every one has a chance at succeeding. Capacity-Building Workshops: We regularly carry out various workshops to empower our beneficiaries, including raising awareness about subjects directly and indirectly impacting our children and young people, educating them, etc. Green Initiative: We are starting a green project to teach vulnerable children and young people who live mostly in an urban setting about agriculture and sustainable practices. Share-A-Meal Programme: Every child from a vulnerable background gets a chance to have a hot meal through this programme. This ensures that every child goes to bed with food in the stomach and relieves them of the stress of cooking for their young siblings, especially in the absence of parents. Safe Haven: We are currently in the process of building a safe haven for victims of abuse, those who require a safe place for the night. Educational trips and outings: Part of building stronger and more informed citizens, we bring our children and beneficiaries on various trips to teach them about nature, the eco-system, culture, history of our country, etc, and ignite a sense of curiosity in them. Target Audience or Beneficiaries: The primary beneficiaries we aim to help are vulnerable children and young people. This encompasses those without parental support, with parents in prison, from divorced families, living on the streets, in homes affected by drug abuse, or subjected to abusive family situations. M-Kids extends its services to the children of both Mauritius and Rodrigues. Impact and Achievements: In the year 2023, our organisation achieved notable milestones, demonstrating a significant impact in various areas: 1. Share A Meal: Provided over 35,000 hot meals to individuals in need. 2. Superkids Workshops: Successfully conducted 13 Superkids workshops across Mauritius and 3 in Rodrigues, with a total attendance exceeding 300 children. Expanded the programme to include sessions for Senior Citizens, young individuals, and Staff Members. 3. Rodrigues Tour: Facilitated the first-ever flight experience for approximately 10 vulnerable children. 4. Educational Outings: Organised enriching outings to explore landmarks, delve into history, and provide educational experiences for the future generation on our beautiful island. 5. IT Classes: Conducted coding and web development classes, benefiting more than 60 students, 90% of whom came from backgrounds in need of substantial educational support. 6. Remedial Classes: Implemented successful Remedial Classes, with over 35 beneficiaries excelling in their studies. 7. Orphan & Vulnerable Children Sponsorship: Thanks to the generous support received, sponsored the education and well-being of 20 orphans and vulnerable children, providing them with the care and assistance they deserve. Our Core Values are: Faith: Our faith is our driving force for social change, development, and shared prosperity. Accountability: We take responsibility for our actions and are answerable to our stakeholders for our policies and decisions. Transparency: We disclose our performance clearly and accurately to our board members and regulatory agencies for review and appraisal. We work with several partners and collaborators locally and internationally to enhance the impact and efficacy of our programmes. Financial Transparency: At M-Kids, we prioritise financial transparency to build trust and accountability. We regularly share detailed financial reports on our website, providing a transparent breakdown of income, expenses, and fund allocation. Our annual return is accessible to the public, offering insight into how funds are allocated across programmes and operational needs. We undergo independent financial audits to ensure accountability and share the results openly.
