Mission Statement

To assist and train women in crisis during pregnancy, offering them alternatives for their development and their children’s.

About This Cause

SOCIAL PROBLEMS IN MEXICO: - According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mexico ranks second worldwide in adolescent pregnancy. More than half of these pregnancies are unexpected and 77 births are reported for every thousand adolescents between 15 and 19 years of age. - It was estimated that by 2017 in our country there were around 33,000 institutionalized children (children under the care of the National System for Integral Family Development); however, there is no real data on the total number of orphaned children and adolescents, as well as those on the street. - Due to the lack of a supporting system, clandestine, induced and/or at-home abortion represents the fourth leading cause of maternal death in the country. BACKGROUND: Since the seventies the increase of pregnancies in single women became notorious, many of these women suffered rejection by relatives and/or society. They were forced to leave their homes, families, schools and sometimes even their jobs. VIFAC emerged in 1985 as a solution for this social problems by offering a real alternative to help these women overcome their vulnerable circumstances and help them live their lives with dignity. VIFAC STRUCTURE: 36 VIFAC Attention Centers, located in 23 states of the Mexican Republic and in Brownsville, Texas, distributed as follows: - 17 House Homes where an average of 3,400 pregnant women in vulnerable situations and 750 children under five years old are cared for by their mothers each year. - 10 Support and Liaison Centers that operate as day centers. - 9 Liaison Points so the pregnant women who needs help can be referred to the closest House Home or Support and Liaison Center. MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS: - Reform of the Civil Code and Civil Procedures for Full Adoption in the Mexican Republic. - Pioneer in the integral care model for pregnant women in vulnerable situations, being able to establish the 36 current VIFAC Attention Centers. - From its inception in 1985 to the first trimester of 2021, VIFAC has directly benefited more than 1.2 million people. - Through our adoption program, more than 4,500 children have found a safe and loving home. CONTRIBUTION OF THE VIFAC COMPREHENSIVE CARE MODEL: VIFAC serves as a support to fulfill the primary activities in each Attention Center. These activities are: - Provide pregnant women and children accompanying them shelter and food. - Ensure medical care during pregnancy, delivery and recovery. - Psychological, legal and moral support to the pregnant women. - Job training and guidance to reintegrate into society with new life opportunities for themselves and their children. - Provide guidance and legal support in the event that the beneficiary requested to carry out a process of adoption. - Provide newborn care. - Conduct sexual educational and prevention programs to influence positively in society. (Audiences: parents, students and teachers). SOCIAL IMPACT FROM 1985 TO THE FIRST TRIMESTER OF 2021: - 325,353 women oriented through our different means of contact. - 45,442 pregnant women cared for in our 33 Attention Centers. - 45,539 babies in gestation under our protection. - 8,932 boys and girls accompanying their pregnant moms. - 4,620 babies integrated into an adoptive family. - 783,763 students, teachers and parents who received talks for teen pregnancy prevention and sex education. MAIN CHALLENGES VIFAC 2021: The main is the permanence of the Institution. Another challenges faced today are: - New vision by the federal government (lack of support for Civil Society Organizations). - Uncertainty of the private sector and economic slowdown. - Maintain the operation of our 36 Attention Centers for health emergencies due to COVID-19, as well as the high rate of violence against women. - Change of culture towards the legalization of abortion. However, the permanence of the Institution depends largely on the fulfillment of the mission, vision, objectives, programs, activities, and projects that we set. We want to be able to reach and help more people. In VIFAC we believe that social responsibility is a vital element within the lives of all Mexicans.
