Mission Statement
It is the aim of the foundation to promote – on the basis of personal relations – sustainable economic and social development for the benefit of the people of Cameroon or Gambia, and to initiate creative entrepreneurship in the participants in projects. Since we believe that good education on schools lays the foundation of one's possibilities and entrepreneurship in the future we also support development of schools and sponsor (poor) children to go to school
About This Cause
Kameroen werkt is a Dutch network of people who feel the urge to contribute to a better world. All the money we raise and materials we collect are going to our projects. We believe that building heartfelt and equal based relations are the best foundation on which we can help each other We have initiated many projects in Cameroon and Gambia in which we help people to create their own work and become an inspiration for other people around them/ We provides assistance in finding the right people and support and advise them in projects both in the preliminary phase and in the implementation. We make funds available for the implementation of projects, take care of a well-considered, phased set-up of a project, ensuring that solid arrangements are made as regards responsibilities and finance. We look, within the projects, to find extra possibilities of social and cultural development and support, for example by getting Dutch people to support children or grown-ups in Cameroon and Gambia in their personal development. Our biggest project now is to support a school in Gambia to become an example-school. We helped building new classrooms, a library, a canteen, a science lab, a staffroom. We helped to install a computer class, a library, a audiovisual room and developed new programs and ways of working. Since two years we joined forces with the Dutch ROC (regional vocational training center) Tilburg, for more and better vocational education in Africa. We signed a cooperation agreement with the Bymyra School in The Gambia and the ROC Tilburg to work together and built a Center for Vocational Education in Kunkujang Mariama. We aim for good quality vocational education in Gambia The cooperation has been started for three reasons: African young people gain perspective in their own country and are less eager to go to Europe A well-educated workforce is emerging in Africa in occupations for which there is a local demand Young people in the Netherlands are given a unique opportunity to gain international experience, to improvise and persevere. The same time we give more poor children in Gambia the possibility to go to that school. Our network sponsors more than 100 children for 5 year and helps many of them also to get food and drinks during schooltime.
