To empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
About This Cause
Our Vision is “a world where women do not live in poverty, are treated with dignity and respect, and are strengthening their families and shaping their communities.” There are over 144 affiliates in 25 countries: 9 are in New Zealand. Each global affiliate is volunteer-driven and supported by a small staff and board. Ours is a transformational, “wrap around” 2 year service, with 3 key programmes offered to clients: • Work Readiness programme which equips each woman for her job or training interview with clothing, confidence and tips; once she gains employment she returns for 3-5 outfits to support her getting started in her career; 60-72% of clients gain employment after being served by Dress for Success • Career Centre - Employment retention workshops and 1:1 mentoring for job seekers including CV assistance, interview preparation, job search support, communication and confidence building skills. • PWG – Professional Women’s Group, job retention and career development programme including our 5 pillars of workplace etiquette, work/life balance, health and well-being, financial literacy and leadership and civic responsibility; over 85% of PWG members are still employed after one year. Dress for Success serves clients referred through community organisations. Our clients come to us from a continually expanding and diverse group of not-for-profit and government agencies including MSD, Citizen's Advice Bureaus, immigration services, shelters, job training programs, educational institutions, Department of Corrections, refugee referrals. Over 25,000 women and families have been given a hand up by Dress for Success Auckland over the past 25 years! In 2019 we opened a second Auckland branch in Manukau this has allowed us to reach more women as we remove barriers (such as location and transport) to receive our services.
