ASOCIACION ARBIO AMAZONIA

Lima, Lima, 15823 Peru

Mission Statement

Our mission is to protect an area of amazon rainforest threatened by logging. Our activities in the middle of the jungle involve the permanent labour of a team of parkrangers that patroll and monitor the area. We also do scientific research in order to know about the standing trees that are being logged because of its high commercial value. Through investigation of flora and fauna we demonstrate the high value of the standing and living ecosystem in order to spread the word about protecting it. To stop deforestation in the Amazon is urgent for the wealth of the planet.

About This Cause

We are a Peruvian non-profit organization founded in 2010 in Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios, Peru. We manage and protect 916 hectares of Amazon rainforest (2264 acres) in the Las Piedras river basin, Madre de Dios region. We are approved to perceive donations under Peruvian tax laws. Since 2010 ARBIO have been studying and conserving an area of primary-virgin rainforest, amassing both national and international awards for their efforts. Tatiana Espinosa, founder of ARBIO is a forestry engineer recognized by the Jane Goodall Hope and Inspiration Ranger Award in 2019 by the International Ranger Federation and the IUCNN. She received this award in the International Ranger Congress in Nepal. Among its more important achievements are the studies made about a species known in Perú as the shihuahuaco (Dipteryx sp), a tree whose estimated longevity can extend for up to a thousand years and more. In the ARBIO rainforest alone, the oldest shihuahuaco tree is believed to be somewhere around 1324 years old. Along with it, in this rainforest are protected more than 50 other species of trees. They’re currently under constant vigilance to prevent them from being exploited by the illegal logging activities on the constant rise in the Peruvian Amazon. ARBIO main focus is the conservation of the Amazon ecosystem, spreading the word to give more value to the standing, live forests. That is to say, that the trees are infinitely more valuable to humanity while alive and standing than they are as wood for us to use. Since it’s creation, ARBIO has been financing its activities through an online innovative system of forest sponsorship. If you want to take part in helping the environment, you can visit its website: https://www.arbioperu.org For every adoption you’ll receive a digital personalized certificate. You’ll also be able to gift the protection of a great Amazon tree to a loved one in special occasions, like the birth of a baby or the passing of a family member. Through this adoption plattform, both people and businesses can take direct action to help conserve the Amazon rainforest via the adoption of trees and hectares from the ARBIO forest, which is constantly monitored by its comitted team of park rangers.
