Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide art therapy and psychooncological support for children during their treatment and recovery from cancer. At Urtica Dzieciom Foundation, we believe that every child facing cancer deserves more than just medical treatment – they deserve hope, dignity, and the healing power of creativity, joy, and community. Since 1997, we have been working in pediatric oncology and hematology wards across Poland to support children and their families during one of the most difficult times in their lives. Our mission is to provide children with cancer access to high-quality art therapy, emotional support, and spaces that nurture their inner strength and sense of self – so they can heal not only physically, but also emotionally and socially. What We Do We run a wide range of programs that blend therapeutic support with art, education, and empowerment: Słoneczna Galeria (The Sunny Gallery): A flagship program where children undergoing cancer treatment participate in art therapy workshops and create original artwork that is later showcased in professional exhibitions and charity auctions. The initiative helps young patients express emotions, build resilience, and regain a sense of agency. Sensory Gardens and Healing Spaces: We create therapeutic gardens in hospital spaces to provide moments of peace, joy, and connection with nature – which is especially important for children who spend long weeks or months in isolation. Therapeutic Camps for Families: We organize therapeutic camps for children and parents after treatment, helping families rebuild strength, trust, and emotional stability. Support for Pediatric Oncology Clinics: We offer direct support to hospitals by donating medical equipment, organizing creative projects, and responding to individual needs of wards and patients. Volunteer and Corporate Engagement: We build strong partnerships with individuals and businesses who want to make a lasting impact – through volunteering, skills-sharing, fundraising, or sponsoring specific initiatives. Why It Matters Cancer affects not only the body, but the spirit. Through our programs, we give children tools to regain their voice, rediscover joy, and feel seen, heard, and loved. We also support parents and caregivers, knowing that their wellbeing is critical to the child’s recovery. Our Vision A world where every child facing cancer is met with compassion, creative expression, and holistic care – where healing is about more than survival; it’s about thriving. Join Us We are proud to be part of the Benevity community and are eager to connect with companies and individuals who share our values. Every donation, act of kindness, or moment of engagement helps us make childhood with cancer a little brighter – and the road to recovery a little easier. Let’s build a more hopeful, human-centered world for children – together.
About This Cause
As the Urtica Dzieciom Foundation, we support and run health, educational and charity initiatives. We help children affected by cancer and their parents. Since 1997, we have been implementing projects supporting children from oncology and hematology departments undergoing treatment throughout Poland. We implemented our first activities as a CSR project in Urtica and since 2017 we have become the Urtica for Children Foundation and we have been gradually developing all our projects aimed at children struggling with cancer. We are actively promoting children’s art, not only by conducting the workshops „Sunny Gallery”, but also by promoting and selling artworks the whole year through FUrtka – an online portal when anyone who wants to help can donate a sum and choose a gift – they vary from paintings to glasses etui, t-shirts, scarfs etc. Urtica For Kids organizes „Sunny Gallery” art workshops in 18 pediatric oncology and hematology departments. The Foundation provides children with necessary equipment and the assistance of professional artists; therefore, children have the opportunity not only to break away from the stress of staying in the hospital, but also to engage into supporting their fellow patients, thanks to the funds obtained from the sale of their paintings. In 2024, 600 children took part and created over 1000 paintings during the „Sunny Gallery” art workshops. The works of art are auctioned each year during the charity Gala, and the income is used to support Foundation’s statutory projects and support the hospitals, which take care of children with cancer, as well as whole families of little patients during rehabilitation. That support includes special holidays – „Urtica for Children Camp”. During these camps, we provide accommodation and specialist’s care (of psychooncologists and dietitian, among others) to children and parents from all across Poland. We organize several camps a year. We also use the collected funds to publish series „Children's Oncology Vademecum” books. The first volume is called “Children's Oncology Vademecum. Games and activities” and it is available for free. Since 2020 we conducted project called „Oncoconsultations” – meetings with psycho-oncologists and nutritionists. Urtica for Children Foundation is actively looking for new sponsors, volunteers and donations to develope the activity reach.
