Mission Statement

Our mission is community psychiatry development and so is social care. To provide congenial care to the people suffering from mental illness and families of Mentally Ill leading them to achieve valuable life thorough recovery and work.

About This Cause

Our organization have already 45 years of history. We treat, cure people with mental illness - mainly schizophrenia in their natural environment, in the local community with support of their families. A patient in psychosis is treated on meds and in hospital ward, but a short-term one, then after remission of psychosis he is sent to us. We offer psychotherapy, occupational therapy as part of workshops that help them acquire competences, then – if this person has a positive prognosis, outcome - we support them in finding sheltered work, and often also protected housing. These people also find the employment in the editorial office of our magazine, which is known throughout Poland – "For us" – a magazine published by grant, which is entirely made up of mentally ill people. Our model community center is the Hostel at Mr. Cogito's in Krakow, where almost thirty people work in remission of schizophrenia. They found themselves there thanks to our efforts, after going through a process – from psychosis – to strengthening and recovery. People employed in a guesthouse find the meaning of life through the value of their own work. Work heals, heal relationships... Over the years, we have developed several great projects that have become an independent body, such as Galeria Miodowa or Teatr Psyche – where our patients paint, create and play. They work on their social skills as well. The works of our artists are of the great interest to Cracovians, they are exhibited as part of vernissages in such important places as the Krakow Palace of Art. In turn, the Psyche Theater performs as a guest in well-known Krakow theaters. Through art to recovery. We are a co-organizer of the Mental Health Congress, a great meeting of professionals and patients and their families, the event takes place cyclically every two years. What we do is crucial to breaking the taboo associated with schizophrenia, which affects 1% of the population. The stigmatization of people suffering from schizophrenia is still a big problem. We run the program "Self-adjudication of mentally ill people", in which our patients talk about their illness in schools, educational institutions trying to debunk the myth of a sick and dangerous person. However, all our current activities are in question. The pandemic has destroyed our existing stability; the guesthouse, thanks to guests from everywhere, until recently saved our entire system, but it also records a negative balance. Currently, our losses are increasing day by day.
