Habitat for Humanity Poland is a nonprofit housing organization which responds to poverty housing through various projects, including: construction of new houses, rehabilitation of apartments and residential facilities for vulnerable youth and adults, microloans, energy efficiency trainings, housing research and advocacy. For most housing statistics, Poland scores among the worst of the EU countries: Almost 15% of the population lives in poverty housing, defined as a lack of roof overhead and/or substandard conditions (with no bathrooms and toilets, no central heating or technically unsafe buildings) Poland ranks in the bottom third of OECD countries in terms of housing conditions for children (average rooms per child/ children in homes that lack basic facilities) 44.8% of Poles live in overcrowded spaces (EU average is 17%) Poland has a serious housing shortage with the lowest rate in Europe of number of homes for its population Almost 53% of Poles point to unmet needs for housing as the biggest problem for Polish families. Habitat works toward its vision by building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with people and families in need of a decent and affordable home. Over the past 40 years Habitat built or renovated over 800 thousand housing units all over the world, providing decent living conditions to over 4 million people. Habitat operates in over 70 countries situated on six continents. 2 million volunteers become engaged in Habitat’s projects every year.
