Mission Statement
Support the most unprotected and deprived groups of society, satisfying their basic needs, like food, health, hygiene, clothing and leisure activities; Dignify and help in the change of lifestyle habits, through individual intervention projects adapted to each situation, promoting various integrations in society, like professional, housing and/or family. Promote internal and external activities capable of developing personal and social skills in the supported population, with the aim of socially integrating them.
About This Cause
The Associação Protectora dos Pobres (APP) is a Private, non-profit, Institution of Social Solidarity, of public utility. Its principal mission is supporting the most unprotected and deprived groups of society, satisfying their basic needs, with 4 meals a day, health service, a place to their personal hygiene, every day clothing suited to the season and temporary shelter centre for homeless people. All services provided by APP, are completely free for its users and open every day at the week, including holidays and weekends. Throughout its existence, the APP has been improving, in terms of quality and diversity of its services, seeking to accompany the evolution of society, responding to the request of the most unprotected and deprived groups of society, with the aim of mitigating phenomena of social exclusion. The APP has a place for leisure activities, where are developed various internal and external activities, appropriated to the different life situations of its users, with the aim of transmitting personal and social skills, creating conditions for the existence of a feeling of self-esteem, thus enabling better reintegration into the community. Another existing response of APP is the street team for homeless people, which carries out daily intervention outings with the aim of creating a relationship of trust with the homeless people, which allows motivating them to change their lifestyle, directing them to the various institutional services, as well accompanying to the remaining services in the community.
