Mission Statement
ASSUBUD'S mission is to promote and socially integrate underprivileged populations, at-risk groups, and people with disabilities through a community-based approach. We emphasize the uniqueness of each child, adolescent, and young person, valuing their individual qualities and helping them realize the impact they can have on the world around them. Our organization provides comprehensive social services to children, adolescents, and young adults from disadvantaged backgrounds. Starting from nursery care for infants as young as 4 months, extending through preschool, and continuing with afterschool programs up to age 30, we support the holistic development of young people. Additionally, our Individual Support Center (CAI) offers tailored interventions for children and families, addressing developmental challenges, neglect, and domestic violence through a multidisciplinary team of professionals in psychology, speech therapy, psychomotricity, and social work. In communities plagued by poverty, social exclusion, and high unemployment, our work provides critical support to break these cycles. By offering educational, social, and health interventions, we improve the quality of life for children and their families, fostering better parenting skills and creating environments conducive to healthy development. Our programs prevent early developmental issues and mitigate neglect and violence, ensuring a more promising future for our beneficiaries and promoting overall community well-being.
About This Cause
We are a Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS nº 78/81) in Alfragide-Amadora-Portugal, founded in 1981. We want to ensure that every child, teenager, and young person has access to meaningful and enriching learning opportunities tailored to their needs, regardless of the challenges they face outside school. Our objective is to contribute to personal and social development in childhood and parenting by intervening in social, educational, and health areas and establishing partnerships for community development. We offer social services, starting with the nursery for children from 4 months old, continuing to preschool, and the Afterschool Activities Center (CATL) for young people up to 30 years old. Additionally, we provide the Individual and Group Support Center (CAI), an integrated service within our activities tailored to the specific needs of each child, young person, and family in our community. CAI aims for the comprehensive development of children and parental support, intervening with a multidisciplinary team in social, educational, and health areas to address child development difficulties and cases of neglect and domestic violence. In the communities where we operate, families face cycles of poverty and social exclusion that are difficult to break, with high levels of unemployment and low education. Parents without resources or knowledge live under constant pressure, exacerbating the situation. The CAI project aims for the comprehensive development of children through family-centered intervention, addressing two main issues: difficulties in child development and situations of neglect and domestic violence. This project is essential due to the high socio-economic vulnerability of our community. CAI beneficiaries are children up to 6 years old and their families, primarily from social housing neighborhoods in Amadora, who need support to improve parenting skills and face socio-economic challenges. The goal is to provide children with an environment that promotes their development and offers families support and training. We aim to prevent and intervene early in development difficulties and situations of neglect and violence, improving the beneficiaries' quality of life and building a more promising future. The project is supported by a multidisciplinary team of professionals in Psychology, Speech Therapy, Psychomotricity, and Social Work, who perform integrated and systemic work with children and their families. Through an integrated approach, we offer continuous therapeutic support, preventive programs to promote specific skills, and early screenings to identify developmental difficulties. To support and engage families, we assess their needs, provide psychosocial support and parental guidance, and organize parenting workshops to enhance parents' skills. The activities are free of charge for families attending our social services in Nursery, Preschool, and After-School Programs, allowing the most vulnerable population to access these services. We have agreements with the Social Security Institute and the Ministry of Education for the Nursery, Preschool, After-School Center, and Youth Club, which require a monthly fee based on each family's income. However, our CAI's therapeutic support and prevention programs have been funded internally. The lack of support from public or private entities puts these vital programs at risk of being discontinued. All support can make a significant difference in ensuring the continuation of these programs.
