About This Cause
Organizatia Suedeza pentru Ajutor Umanitar Individual (OSAUI) was founded by Individuell Människohjälp, IM. IM has been present in Romania since 1991. After the fall of the communist regime in 1998, IM decided to take care of 24 neglected and disabled children. The aim was to create a safe environment where these children could grow up and show that all children are able to develop under right conditions. The first home for them was the building from Voluntari, built with the financial support of IM and then starting with 2000 there were created five group homes in Voluntari and Bucharest sector 2. 15 of them have been living for 17 years, during 1999 -201, in 3 group homes (2 in Bucharest and 1 in Voluntari), 3 youngsters benefited of supported living in one flat from Bucharest and 5 of the youngsters were transferred into a building owned and conducted by the local municipality. 3 of the youngsters live now independently. Since 2017 all beneficiaries (16 youngsters) have been living in the Residential Center – Nils, in Voluntari. In May 2012 OSAUI created a Day center – O raza de lumina. OSAUI provided here different suport services for adults with disabilities, in order to develop life skills. The services were covering a wide range of activities: sport, one to one (individual) work, group work, like skills including domestic activities, educational activities, occupational activities etc.
