To provide effective education for children diagnosed with autism, in order to better their lives and the lives of their families.
About This Cause
The Association opened a center dedicated to the intervention for children with autism in March, 2012. Invingem Autismul is primarily a center based in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA is an empirical research based intervention. It is currently recognized as one of the “Best Practices” in terms of autism treatment in the U.S.A. Primary funding for ABA in Romania comes from the family’s personal funds and charitable donations. Our services are: ABA Therapy, Integration (this project supports school integration for children in regular education classrooms), Social Skills and Educational Groups. Each child receives 2-6 hours of one to one ABA therapy per day (one child with one therapist). The child’s program is formulated through independent assessment in order to address their specific needs. The program is supervised by a supervising consultant. Ongoing training and lesson progression is provided by the supervising consultant. Some of the children attend kindergarten or school in a regular education environment. The child goes to school with a “shadow” who helps them to be successful in the school environment. The child’s integration into the school setting is overseen by the same Consultant who is guiding the program at the Center. Once per week the children attend swim class. This is an example of a service donated by an involved community member. Teens and pre-teens at Invingem Autismul have a community-based component to their day. This includes activities, such as, learning to buy something from the store, ride the bus or go to a restaurant. The staff and children also enjoy going on field trips. All of these services are provided by Invingem Autismul Center. This ensures consistency across programs and consistency for the child. This also alleviates added stressors to the family and can give rise to greater ability to hold a steady job.
