About This Cause
Les Enfants de Dieu (EDD) or Children of God is a registered Non-Governmental Organization that transforms the lives of Rwandan street children by alleviating their hardships and providing them with the opportunities for education so as to help them get natured, become valuable and more so respected individuals in the society whenever we reintegrate them to their respective families and societies. EDD Organization is secular but adopted God in its name to signify the protective qualities of all religions and spiritual movement. EDD operates as rehabilitation/n center located in Gasabo District, Kigali, Rwanda with legal personality Registration number as 71/11 of 8/6/2004.Our organization has been actively creating solutions to the problems of street kids and families that our society is facing. EDD was founded in 2002 by Mr. Tajdin Hussain Jaffer as he was touched about the day to day livelihood of Rwandan street kids who were always wandering around the streets of his workplace, food, clothes, shelter as well as Education were the main basic needs that motivated him to start proving them lunch in the beginning. However, his dream became bigger when he realized that he could gazette a piece of land to establish a temporary home (rehabilitation centre) for these kids which gave birth to EDD in 2002 and officially got a registration certificate in 2004 after fulfilling all government terms and conditions. Key activities of interventions: Provision of basic needs (food, accommodation, healthcare, clothing) at our centre in Kigali. Psychosocial rehabilitation (psychotherapy :body, mind and spirit) Educational support (formal and vocational) ,sports, art, music, dance and ICT. Reintegration back into families and the wider community. Family empowerment IMPACT: We have made 18 years providing needs, care and support to Rwanda’s Street kids. In fact, the center has helped Six hundred forty two (642) street kids between 2002 and 2020. We are happy to report to you that many of our alumni have become entrepreneurs, employees of various organizations and to be specific,EDD has 20 employees 5 of them are our alumni and presently serving the centre. In addition to that 217 youth have already graduated from high-school and/or vocational Training, 144 of these youth currently have jobs or are self-employed. We continue to support 198 children by paying for school fees, materials Etc.
