Mission Statement

TOUCH is a registered not-for-profit charitable organisation serving children from low-income or single-parent families, youths-at-risk, needy families, people with special and healthcare needs, and the frail elderly.Over the last 23 years, TOUCH has reached out to many individuals from all races and religions. In 2014, TOUCH reached out to some 29,000 clients and 156,000 service users.

About This Cause

The mission of TOUCH is to establish and provide for the needy and disadvantaged in our society an integrated network of community-based services that strengthens the family, believing that every individual is unique and capable of reaching his or her highest potential. TOUCH provides the following integrated services: (1) TOUCH Young Arrows (2) TOUCH Cyber Wellness (3) TOUCH Leadership & Mentoring (4) TOUCH Youth Learning Centre (5) TOUCH Caregivers Support (6) TOUCH Home Care (7) TOUCH Seniors Activity Centre (8) TOUCH Centre for Independent Living (9) TOUCH Ubi Hostel (10) TOUCH Silent Club (11) TOUCH Cancer Support (12) TOUCH Diabetes Support (1) TOUCH Young Arrows (TYA) TYA serves children aged six to 12 years old from single parent &/or low income families by providing them weekly free tuition in English and Mathematics & values driven activities on Saturdays, as well as year round family bonding events & camps, across 21 TYA clubs in Singapore. TYA’s objectives are to: • inculcate right moral values and build character qualities in our young • help our young develop thinking skills and a positive attitude towards learning • create a secure and conducive environment for cultivating healthy self-esteem and relationships • provide care and guidance for our young and their families • foster a closer parent-child relationship (2) TOUCH Cyber Wellness (TCW) TCW is a trailblazer in the field of cyber wellness education. Since 2001, TCW has reached out to more than 340 schools and 1.25 mil individuals through CRuSH (Cyberspace Risks and where U Seek Help) and our PlanetCRuSH Cyber Wellness Centres located at Bukit Merah and Hougang through partnering educators, parents and adults. TCW is also the key agency providing counselling services on cyber wellness issues. TCW’s programmes aim to: • Educate teenagers on the potential hazards in cyberspace and inspire them to use the Internet in positive ways • Provide youths and families with a positive experience with Internet-related activities and games • Empower adults to mentor the young to harness the benefits of the Internet in a balanced manner (3) TOUCH Leadership & Mentoring (TL&M) TL&M runs school-based leadership development programmes for youth leaders and out-of-school youths. TL&M aims to: • Develop the leadership qualities of youths through mentoring and Service-Learning. Its programmes include Compassionate Leader Always Serving Society; Introduction to Service-Learning; Basic Service-Learning Facilitation; and I AM Able. TL&M also provides counselling services under the Youth Counselling Unit (YCU), which was set up to better meet the range of challenging issues facing today’s youths. YCU specialises in cyber wellness counselling and programmes for at-risk youths supported by the Ministry of Social and Family Development. These programmes include the Enhanced Step-Up and Time-Out Programme. (4) TOUCH Youth Learning Centre (TYLC) TYLC provides out-of-school youths another chance to continue their education and attain the GCE ‘O’ or ‘N’ level qualification. Its team of professional and dedicated teachers provides a secure and affirmative environment where students learn to accept themselves as unique individuals, grow to embrace their life purpose and contribute to society. TYLC also provides motivational talks and lifeskills training to promote character values, and Service-Learning projects to teach compassion and create a deeper understanding of the real needs of the community. (5) TOUCH Caregivers Support (TCG) TCG was set up to help caregivers cope with the challenges of caregiving. TCG strives to journey with caregivers to manage the multi-faceted care of the frail elderly and the well being of the caregivers. Through TCG’s Care Line, Care Coordinators are able to find out caregivers’ needs and recommend appropriate care arrangements and services for their elderly loved ones. To better cater to the needs of caregivers, TCG also focuses on delivering personalised training by occupational therapists, physiotherapists and nurses – right in the homes of caregivers. (6) TOUCH Home Care (THC) THC was set up in 1994 to meet the needs of the frail and homebound elderly. Through its range of integrated and holistic services, THC helps the elderly live with dignity, and enjoy greater independence and quality of life at home. THC offers: • Medical and nursing services for management of chronic medical conditions, medication prescriptions, wound management, feeding tube change, etc. • Rehabilitative services for physiotherapy and occupational therapy • Ambulance escort service for medical appointments • Weekly housekeeping and laundry services • Home modification service to retrofit or design a more accessible and safe home environment for disabled elders • Customised training for caregivers in the homes of the elderly (7) TOUCH Seniors Activity Centre (TSAC) TSAC is a drop-in centre at Geylang Bahru serving seniors aged 60 years and above and living in rental as well as purchased blocks in the Geylang Bahru/ Kallang Bahru neighbourhood. Besides organising social recreational activities to promote social interaction, friendship, mutual help and neighbourliness among the seniors, TSAC also provides practical assistance and social services to support the seniors. TSAC also promotes the development of positive attitudes towards the elderly by partnering schools and organisations in conducting volunteer projects. (8) TOUCH Centre for Independent Living (TCIL) TCIL is a day activity centre for persons aged 18 and above who suffer from mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. At TCIL, the trainees are empowered to learn, be independent and integrated into the community. The life skills coach would patiently guide and train the trainees on daily living skills like telling the time, taking care of their personal hygiene, handling money, taking public transport, managing their emotions and interacting with people appropriately. For those with higher functioning abilities, they are placed in the job placement and employment track and are provided vocational training to prepare them for employment. TCIL would assess the trainees’ readiness for employment, followed by job placements and support to the trainees and employers to make the trainees’ transition to the workforce more seamless. (9) TOUCH Ubi Hostel (TUH) TUH runs a stay-in residential programme to provide adults aged 21 years and above with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities with (a) training in activities of daily living skills, community living skills, social and recreational skills (b) occupational guidance and preparations cum job placement and support The objective is to help the trainees function optimally and integrate well into society to live meaningful lives independently. (10) TOUCH Silent Club (TSC) TSC aims to help every Deaf person integrate into the society and empower them to be independent individuals by offering guidance in the areas of education, vocation, recreation and social development. Besides organising social and recreational activities for the Deaf, TSC also provides job placement, job counselling and lifeskills training under the Work Assistance Programme. TSC also organises sign language courses for the public to raise awareness about the Deaf and promote integration. (11) TOUCH Cancer Support (TCAS) TCAS is the only local agency that administers the Patient Assistance Programme for Novartis Singapore to provide the cancer drug Glivec to patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia and/or Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumours. TCAS monitors these patients’ progress through regular home visits and organises support group meetings and outings for them and their families. TCAS also conducts financial assessment for all eligible patients, make recommendations for subsidies and ensure that all requirements are met for patients to continue in this programme. (12) TOUCH Diabetes Support (TDS) TDS was formed in 1992 to reach out to people living with diabetes, with a special focus on insulin-treated diabetes. TDS focuses on building a community of care and support in helping people with diabetes cope with the social, psychological, emotional and physical challenges of living with diabetes through programmes and activities that are designed with the goal of helping them live well with diabetes.
