About This Cause

WHO WE ARE Children's Wishing Well is a registered charity founded in 2002, and the only charity organisation in Singapore focused on the holistic education of children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our children come from low-income families, and their parents may be ill, incarcerated, or absent from their lives. We provide a broad range of services to them 100% free-of-charge. Our programmes support their current educational and daily living needs, as well as equip them with skills for their future, so as to empower them to escape the poverty trap. WHAT WE DO We provide a broad range of services to more than 1,000 beneficiaries each year. Our services support their current educational and daily living needs, and equip them with skills for their future, so as to build a strong foundation for them to contribute as useful members of society and escape the poverty trap. Our signature programme is the Children Enrichment Program which helps children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds realise their aspirations by providing holistic education and development. This is done by supporting a child’s various needs; from basic needs such as food and nutrition, daily living necessities, to academic support, life skills (such as public speaking, baking, etc) and even non-academic training (such as sports, music, art, etc). The CEP also addresses the psychosocial need of a child, providing counselling sessions where needed. We also organize Life Skills workshops and conduct training on interview skills, personal grooming, cooking, public speaking and decision making etc. These life skills are essential to the holistic development for children and can help them succeed later in life. Children also go on Learning Journeys to educate and expose them to experiences and knowledge outside the classroom. Career GPS is another programme that allows youths to visit companies in a variety of industries so that they are exposed different career options and are motivated to work towards their goals. Following the visits, if there is a match of interest, we may organise work attachments and mentorship to help them fulfil their career aspirations. We also provide fresh groceries shopping and daily hot lunch, so that the children have access to sufficient and nutritious food. In recognition that not all children are academically-inclined, our Reach For The Stars program identifies those who are talented in these areas to sponsor them for professional training, and hence support their ambitions to pursue careers in these areas. WHO WE HELP Our beneficiaries are disadvantaged children (either schooling or below 18 years old) living across any part of Singapore, regardless of race, gender, religion, or nationality. We adopt the Ministry of Education’s eligibility criteria for financial assistance. Presently, this means a total household income of less than S$3,000 a month OR a per capita of under S$750 for larger families. All beneficiaries are required to provide supporting documentary evidence of their eligibility, which are re-checked at regular intervals. Please note that donations made via Benevity will not be eligible for tax deduction with Children’s Wishing Well as the donation is made to The UK Online Giving Foundation (UKOGF). Corporates organising fundraising campaigns should make prior arrangements with Children’s Wishing Well if tax deduction is required for individual donors. No exceptions can be made once the tax filing window has closed in December of each year.
