Thus in partnership with businesses and educators, JA brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential.

About This Cause

About JA Worldwide: Junior Achievement Worldwide® (JA) is an innovator in empowering young people to own their future economic success in the global marketplace. JA’s programs use experiential learning to inspire students to dream big, reach their potential, and contribute to the vitality of their local communities and the world economy. About JA Singapore: Incorporated in 2008, we gained charity status in 2010. We are supported by leading organizations in Singapore, some of which are represented on our Board. JA Singapore helps educate students from Kindergarten to Junior College and Polytechnics about entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy. Our programs are delivered free of charge and through volunteers from the business world to bring the real world to students. Our activity level has grown exponentially since our inception in 2008: from 69 students across 4 schools to over 20,000 young people annually with 1800 volunteers. Program Impact: JA continues to impact students and volunteers alike in a significant manner, as illustrated through the following. Students who attended a JA program: • Better appreciate real world concepts and skills; • Understand the importance of staying in school; • Feel encouraged to become entrepreneurs; • Understand the relevance of basic skills, such as financial literacy. Volunteers who facilitated a JA program: • Enjoyed significant satisfaction, and real contribution as facilitation is very hands-on • Enjoyed the challenge in a non-work environment • Considered their efforts as a contribution to personal development Teachers who witnessed JA efforts: • Have expressed high praise for JA programs; • Confirm that their students enjoyed JA; and • Credit volunteers as a major factor, saying that they bring an outside business perspective into the classroom and serve as positive role models for students. Educators agree that JA students score higher than non-participating students regarding: • Securing a job; • Acting professionally; • Taking on leadership roles; and • Resolving conflicts. Being involved: Content and materials: JA Singapore provides all course materials, ready for use. Volunteers are encouraged to contribute their own experiences to make the content relevant to the student. Commitment: Volunteer commitment could vary from three days (two hours per day) to a weekly visit of one hour each for 6 weeks, depending on the school schedule. Programs: JA Singapore works closely across schools, companies, and individual volunteers to select the programs that fit their needs and availabilities.
