Mission Statement

SPD is committed to working in partnership with people with disabilities to develop their potential to the fullest so they can be self-reliant and independent.

About This Cause

SPD is a charity set up in Singapore in 1964 to help people with disabilities to maximise their potential and be integrated into mainstream society. The over 20 programmes we run from six locations islandwide cater to people of all ages with physical, sensory and developmental disabilities, a majority of whom are from low-income families. Our services include day care, therapy, early intervention, vocational training, assistive technology, as well as educational, employment and social support. Through these, we aim to prepare children with developmental needs to go to mainstream schools, help youths with disabilities to complete their studies, provide therapy and help adults with disabilities to find jobs, and train people with disabilities with higher support needs to be independent while providing respite for their family members and caregivers. We serve people who are born with or have acquired disabilities through accidents, old age or illnesses. Their disabilities may include cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spastic paraplegia, global developmental delay, autism, brittle bones, macular diseases, hearing loss, vision impairment, or stroke and spinal cord injuries. Our support is also extended to family members and caregivers to ensure a better network of care for their loved ones with disabilities. SPD’s services catered to 10,5001 people with disabilities in FY19/20. SPD is an approved Institution of a Public Character (IPC) and can issue tax–deductible receipts. All donations are eligible for a 2.5 times tax deduction.
