About This Cause
SASCO @ HONG SAN 30 HONG SAN TERRACE SINGAPORE 688246 Our residential facility, also referred to by its building name, Evergreen Place, is a cosy and peaceful home for people aged 60 years and above. It provides a safe environment for seniors who are either destitute or facing challenging financial and family situations, so that they can maintain their dignity and individual freedom. The four-storey building has a capacity of 102 beds, four of which are reserved for crisis cases. SASCO @ Hong San also provides a range of therapies (physio, art, music, dance, counselling and workshops) and activities (festive celebrations onsite, excursions) to promote the health and well-being of its residents, who are usually frail and elderly. Situated in a Dementia Friendly Community in the western part of Singapore, SASCO @ Hong San is part of the Friends of Dementia network, and serves as a go-to point for wandering persons with dementia, ensuring their safe return to their loved ones by coordinating with various authorities. Day Care Centres SASCO @ HONG KAH NORTH | SASCO @ JURONG WEST | SASCO @ TELOK BLANGAH | SASCO @ WEST COAST Catering to between 50 and 105 clients each, our four daycare centres support the frail elderly in the community. They offer programmes such as Rehabilitation, Maintenance Day Care, Dementia Day Care, Friends of Dementia, Respite Day Care, Centre-Based Nursing, and Integrated Home & Day Care (IHDC). By doing this, these centres can also offer temporary respite to the caregivers of these frail elderly. These shared spaces are used to conduct for seniors in the community an array of activities, from exercises to dance to even baking and art classes. All our activities are centred around four pillars: 1.Improving the Quality of Life 2.Person-centred Care 3.Holistic Approach 4.Mission-driven & Guided by Core Values SASCO Senior Citizens’ Home was set up on 21 January 1981 at the void deck of a HDB block in Telok Blangah to provide lodging and care for the destitute elderly regardless of race, language or religion. We were registered with the Commissioner of Charities in the same year. We are also affiliated to the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) and a member of the NCSS Charitable Fund. When it was first set up, the Home took in 10 residents from the now defunct Woodstock Home. The intake soon expanded, with the Home in Telok Blangah consistently running at the full capacity of 20 residents. SASCO Home’s Sheltered Home facility has since moved to Hong San (Evergreen Place), where we are able to accommodate up to 102 seniors, while the Telok Blangah facility has been converted to a Day Care Centre. Besides lodging and personal care, the Sheltered Home provides a range of organised activities for our residents. These include karaoke sessions, board games, art and craft, and other group activities. To meet the residents’ rehabilitative needs, professional physiotherapy sessions are conducted at least twice weekly. Spiritual needs are also not forgotten, and there is a private prayer room for residents of all religions to use. Basic recreational resources such as television sets, reading materials and board games are also available.
