About This Cause
Established in 1995, Lions Befrienders has more than 27 years of experience in befriending and caring for seniors in order for them to age in place in the community. We are registered member with the National Council of Social Service, the local social services sector’s umbrella body. We are a Institutions of Public Character (IPCs) registered charity that are able to issue tax deductible receipts for qualifying donations to donors in Singapore. Over the years, Lions Befrienders strives to address the varied needs of more than 86,000 seniors by adopting a senior-centric approach in its eldercare services. Leveraging on the support of some 1,000 regular volunteers, we actively engage more than 7,800 at-risk seniors via a spectrum of integrated eldercare service from preventive to intervention through comprehensive programmes coupled with high touch and high tech, including social, emotional, mental and physical, to improve their quality of life. Amid the challenges in the eldercare landscape, Lions Befrienders undertakes constant review and adjustment to its programmes and services. Under our Community Outreach arm, we currently operate 10 Active Ageing Centres, 3 Cluster Support, 2 Senior Group Homes, Home Personal Care services, Community of Cares for Queenstown Health District and the lead co-ordinator for mental wellness in Queenstown Heath District for all age group. Our Befriending arm extends island-wide befriending services to socially isolated seniors. For its exemplary disclosure and corporate governance practices, Lions Befrienders was conferred the Charity Transparency Award by the Charity Council in 2016 and 2017. The number of people aged 65 years or older will multiply threefold from current 300,000 to 900,000 in 2030 in Singapore. Thus, Lions Befrienders is required by Agency for Integrated Care, Singapore, to reach out to 35,000 seniors in the next two years. New services including help prepare seniors who are due for release to integrate into the community, therapy (art, occupational and physio) services and expansion of eldercare facilities are already in the plan to meet the current and future needs in the next two years. This could raise our annual operating cost from $8.8million dollars to an estimated $10 million dollars or more in 2024. #I am not afraid to die. But I am afraid that when I die, my body will rot and nobody knows" This is a common fear among 80% of our seniors. Make a Donation and become a Partner of Lions Befrienders Today!
