About This Cause
The League against Rheumatism in Slovakia (LPRe SR) is a civic association that was founded in 1990 on the initiative of a group of patients and employees of the then Research Institute of Rheumatic Diseases in Piešt'any. Its seat is also located at the now called National Institute for Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases (RMDs). LPRe SR organizes the cooperation of all those who want, can and can help rheumatic patients. It also provides advisory services in health and social matters. Through its activities, it wants to inform the public about rheumatic diseases, to strive for the improvement of health and social care for rheumatics and to promote continuous education in rheumatology. LPRe SR tries to maintain and expand contacts with national Leagues and similar institutions all over the world. It organises convalescent stays, courses on health and social issues, social and cultural events. It also organizes events promoting active movement - group exercises, yoga therapy for rheumatics or Nordic walking in the long-standing project "Let's Move with Arthritis!" The LPRe SR magazine is published twice a year as part of the editorial activities, as well as various brochures providing practical orientation in the treatment and prevention of individual rheumatic diseases and patient stories. The most successful project has been the University of Arthritis as an original educational project of the League against Rheumatism for patients. The primary goal of the University is to inform patients with rheumatic diseases about their diagnoses, treatment options and also about patients' rights and obligations. The mission of the project is to achieve better health and social awareness among patients. In 2014, LPRe SR opened a Social-Psychological Support Centre for patients, which is located in the National Institute for RMDs in Piešt'any and currently offers its services by phone, e-mail and online through various communication applications. Our smallest members and patients can take advatage of 3 children's play zones at the institute.
