Mission Statement
Since 2010, the KVAPKA NÁDEJE (a DROP OF HOPE) Foundation has been a constant source of support for sick children in Slovakia. Our primary goal is to improve their medical treatment, education, cultural engagement, and social well-being, with a particular focus on children battling oncological diseases, commonly known as cancer, and children with psychiatric disorders. We believe that every drop of help brings hope and improves the quality of life for these children and their families. Our motto is: “If our activities could only help to save even one child life, it is worth to do it!”
About This Cause
Since July 2010, the KVAPKA NÁDEJE (a Dop of Hope) Foundation has been a constant source of hope for sick children in Slovakia. Our primary focus is on supporting the medical treatment and social needs of children battling oncological diseases. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our donors and sponsors, we have successfully implemented significant public benefit projects worth over €3 million during our existence. Through these funds, we have, among other achievements, built a modern Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit at the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology of the National Institute of Children's Diseases in Bratislava. We have also renovated the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, established a high-dose phototherapy outpatient clinic, and created a Reference Center for the Diagnosis of Childhood Leukemias and Lymphomas. Furthermore, we contributed to the establishment of a new Cell Therapy Department and procured numerous modern diagnostic and treatment devices for hematology-oncology departments in Bratislava, Banská Bystrica, and Košice. Concurrently, we have significantly supported the development of the National Marrow Donor Registry. Our ongoing nationwide information and recruitment campaign, "MÁTE SLINU?" (GOT SALIVA?), has effectively expanded the Slovak database of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors by more than 20,000 new registered individuals. Since 2024, the KVAPKA NÁDEJE Foundation has extended its activities to address the challenges of child psychiatry. The pilot project of this crucial initiative, aimed at strengthening diagnostic and therapeutic capacities for child psychiatric patients across Slovakia, involved the acquisition of diagnostic equipment for the Department of Child Psychiatry at the University Hospital in Martin, amounting to almost €60,000. Our largest upcoming project, in collaboration with the National Institute of Children's Diseases in Bratislava, is the extensive expansion and modernization of the Department of Child Psychiatry at the National Institute of Children's Diseases, which is one of the most important healthcare psychiatric facilities with supra-regional significance. Our goal is to secure new, modern interior furnishings for the newly established capacities of the department. This equipment will not only meet high utility and hygiene standards for medical facilities but also the specific safety requirements necessary for this type of treatment environment. Our ambition is to create a top-tier therapeutic workplace of European standard, whose interior will have a positive psychological impact on hospitalized child psychiatric patients, for whom an unsuitable environment can negatively affect the course and success of treatment. We also continue our ongoing activities to support pediatric oncology centers. Our efforts focus on supplementing the technical equipment and operational facilities of these departments, for example, by procuring a centrifuge and cryo-container for the Cell Therapy Department at the National Institute of Children's Diseases, or by organizing rehabilitation camps for child patients who have successfully undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at the Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit in the National Institute of Children's Diseases. An exceptionally important and long-term project of the KVAPKA NÁDEJE Foundation is the information and recruitment campaign "MÁTE SLINU?", which we have been running since 2015. Through this campaign, we reach out to the general public, with a particular focus on secondary and university students throughout Slovakia. Our aim is to provide them with current and relevant information about hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in the treatment of blood cancers and to explain the crucial importance of their registration in the National Marrow Donor Registry of the Slovak Republic. To secure the necessary funding for our charitable projects, we organize media-attractive benefit cultural, social, and sporting events, accompanied by extensive promotional campaigns (such as the "Night of Hope" benefit gala in coproduction with Slovak Television and other media-attractive sports, cultural and social charity events, etc.). However, our most important sources of funding remain public donations and partnerships with commercial companies, without which the realization of our noble goals would not be possible.
