Mission Statement
The Hout Bay Christian Community Association (HBCCA) is a public-benefit, non-profit organisation that owns and manages a Community Centre named ‘Iziko Lobomi – Centre of Life’ situated in the heart of Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay, an Atlantic Seaboard suburb of Cape Town.
About This Cause
Embedded in the DNA of the HBCCA is the firm commitment to make a positive and lasting impact on the community of Imizamo Yethu through services, programmes and projects touching all spheres of people’s lives – spiritually as well as materially. The HBCCA’s Church cum Adult Training Centre, ‘IZIKO LOBOMI’ is the means by which this community is reached and served. IZIKO LOBOMI, meaning ‘Centre of Life’ is a unique, one-of-kind facility situated in the heart of Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay, an Atlantic Seaboard suburb of Cape Town. CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY In the early 1990’s this property was assigned by the Government to the Imizamo Yethu Christian community with the specific purpose to be shared to cater for their needs. More than 30 different denominations are members of the HBCCA and all share this facility (which was inaugurated in October 1996) on a daily basis by means of a booking system for their church services, meetings, weddings and funerals. These activities primarily takes place during the evenings and over weekends. SOCIAL SERVICES During the day the facility is hub for the provision of administration, healthcare, social welfare and counselling services for all members of the Imizamo Yethu community. A Government sponsored feeding programme ensures that many community members in need are provided with a nutritious meal every day of the week. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT & CAPACITY BUILDING INITIATIVES Programmes at the Centre also provides opportunities for self-assistance, empowerment and skills development. Life and business skills training are provided by in-house and external service providers on a permanent and ad-hoc basis. Space is made available at the Centre for the running of several small businesses by men and women from the local community. OTHER SERVICES The Centre is also used by the local government as venue for aid distribution during times of disasters. It is used as venue by the local government, local institutions and organisations for the delivery of Social Services, information sessions, community meetings and consultations. COMMUNITY UPLIFTMENT & IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS The HBCCA also undertakes community upliftment and improvement initiatives in the local community. These projects include the upgrading and maintenance of common community facilities and common property, improvement of safety of residential structures, etc. FINANCES Income to cover expenses at Iziko Lobomi comes from the following sources: - Membership Fees, Office services, Visitors and Cafe sales - Hall fees and Rental charges - Donations from LOCAL private individuals, organisations and businesses - Donations from INTERNATIONAL private individuals, organisations, institutions and businesses
