Mission Statement
LIV exists to raise the next generation of leaders in our nation. Our mission, purpose and passion is to place vulnerable, parentless children into a family environment where they receive unconditional love, spiritual discipleship, care and nurturing and where all their physical needs are taken care of. LIV is partnering with Government, Business and the Church to provide urgently needed holistic residential care, on a large scale, for the thousands of vulnerable and parentless children, with the core vision to rescue a child, restore a life, raise a leader and release a star. Children are tomorrow’s future, so the manner in which they are raised will influence who they become. HIV/AIDS and poverty have resulted in many children being abandoned and orphaned. We want these children to grow up to be a generation that will influence positive change within South Africa, our continent and indeed the world. If these children are equipped with essential moral values and life skills, they truly can live lives that will influence and inspire others.
About This Cause
Letter of Information There are over five million orphans in South Africa, and countless vulnerable children who have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS, with many of them living in child-headed households. It is against this background that Lungisisa Indlela Village (LIV) was founded. LIV is partnering with government, business and the church to provide urgently needed holistic residential care on a large scale with the core vision to Rescue a child, Restore a life, Raise a leader and Release a star. OUR MISSION STATEMENT LIV is about change on a large scale. It exists to raise the next generation of leaders in our nation. The mission, purpose and passion is to place vulnerable and orphaned children into a family environment where they receive unconditional love, spiritual discipleship, care and nurturing, and where all their physical needs are taken care of. LIV wants to equip these children with essential moral values and life skills so that they can live lives that will influence and inspire others. OUR HISTORY AND CREDIBILITY The first LIV Village has been in operation since 2010 and is located outside Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. LIV is a registered non-profit company as defined in the South African Companies Act, 2008, with a Board of Directors ensuring good governance, transparency and credibility. Deloitte are the appointed auditors. OUR PROGRESS The first 96 environmentally friendly homes are complete with 32 house mothers at present and a team of relief mothers, as well as others in training, and over 170 children in residence. LIV school includes an Early Childhood Development Centre, Primary and High School with 22 classrooms, as well as a fully fitted library, computer room, art room, woodwork room and music centre, with dedicated and talented teachers. The LIV Choir is being invited to perform at key cultural events across the country and travelled to the UK and Dubai in 2016. Nurses, therapists, counsellors and social workers are facilitating the vision of holistic healing for LIV children in the LIV Health Care Centre. LIV has also established the LIV Owethu Community Clinic, which provides primary health care for the impoverished community surrounding the village. In February 2018 a Waste Water Treatment Plant was installed, which feeds into a dam. The LIV Culinary School was started at the beginning of 2016 and the LIV Welding Academy opened in September 2017. Both of these ventures aim to help provide future employment for our LIV children when they grow up, and for the local community in need. We are excited about the new AET (Adult Education and Training) programme we started in March 2019. This arm of LIV Training is currently focused on our LIV children completing the programme. Further training is planned as we develop the Training Centre. LIV Church with “Promise Land” Kids Church on the village is thriving and making a meaningful impact on the neighbouring community in Cottonlands as an increasing number of community members join us on a weekly basis. LONG-TERM SUSTAINABILITY LIV Business has been established to focus on our long-term mission of having many self-sustainable villages across South Africa as well as providing skills training and employment, including future vocational training, for the immediate and surrounding communities and for the children as they prepare to finish their schooling. The core purpose of each business is to contribute positively to the running of LIV Village, that the calling of building many villages across South Africa may be realised. LIV Business is owned 100% by LIV Village, thereby making the children full beneficiaries of all profits generated by these businesses. Some of the businesses that have been established are LIV Moringa, LIV Agriculture, LIV Labels and LIV Clean. LIV Durban employs most of their staff from the local community and within its portfolio of businesses at least a further 1,000 people are currently employed. IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD - African Proverb We need many villages and family foster homes across our nation and beyond to rescue, restore, raise and release these children. “A solid family environment is essential in paving the way towards the realisation of future dreams and aspirations of children.” - Nelson Mandela LIV needs many partners to journey with us to make this a reality. We believe, as we put a roof over every vulnerable child’s head, give them a mother / parents to love them, feed and educate them to the glory of God, our nation will be changed forever.
