About This Cause

ENVIRO CRIME SOLUTIONS is an independently run nonprofit organization primarily involved in the protection and conservation of Rhino and other endangered species in Africa. Our organization was born out of deep love for nature and animals. Our passion and drive for rhino and wildlife conversation, in general, emanates from the need to stop one more death of rhino from the terrible scourge of greed driven poaching. In the modern world where the need to get quick money overlooks future repercussions, there occurrence of poaching activities have increased exponentially. Our organization has been at the forefront of the battle against rhino, abalone and other endangered species poaching and championed ecosystem conservation. Since 2015, we have dedicated our time and resources in the forensic analysis and investigation of poaching crimes. As poaching is a burden carried by the entire community, we conduct awareness and youth education programmes. Through this initiative, we have been able to select the youths from the lower socio-economic background who have a great interest in environmental conservation and give, not only scholarships to pursue education in the field, but long term mentorship based on life changing interventions. We have created environmental ambassadors within the community, and we initiated whistleblowing avenues that can allow communities report any suspicious poaching activity in a safe and anonymous environment. Our Vision is a world where there is no rhino poaching and where these magnificent animals can walk free. We have the expertise to enable us to meet the zero poaching challenge. Until that vision becomes a reality we will be there day and night to fight this battle for the future of our rhino. Our CEO Andre Roberts is one of the world's most experienced rhino poaching scene forensic analysts. We believe that with financial assistance and the right resources, together, we can achieve this incredible vision. MISSION: Our mission is to use innovative, sustainable and high impact methods to curb and prevent poaching and preserve our natural heritage for generations to come. Creating ambassadors and future conservationists thru meaningful and targeted education programs and youth and community based programs that assist the most vulnerable in our communities. Working along with other stakeholders in the fight against poaching we play a crucial part in the forensic investigation of and prevention of poaching. By creating tomorrow’s conservationists today we ensure that the fight for these incredible animals and their continued existence continues long after we are not there anymore.  Transparency  Accountability & Reliability  Integrity & Honesty  Professionalism & Discretion  Teamwork & Partnership Today Rhinos are one of the most threatened species on the planet. The relentless slaughter of rhino worldwide, especially in South Africa, is a well-documented issue and an urgent cause for concern. Currently the demand for Rhino horn has seen prices driven up to as much as $80 000 (US) per kilo. This makes rhino horn the highest priced contraband in the world exceeding any drug or other illicit trade items. Because of this many people are prepared to slaughter these majestic animals in order to get rich quickly. Rhinos are a flagship species, a highly charismatic animal that can serve as a rallying point for conservation, capturing the attention of people from all over the world and generating significant returns from wildlife-based tourism. In nature rhinos are an “umbrella species”. The conservation of rhino has a knock on effect in that their conservation depends on large areas of ecosystems being conserved and protected. As a result a very broad cross section of animals inhabiting similar bio-diverse ecosystems indirectly benefit as a result of conservation efforts aimed specifically at rhino. Rhinos are keystone species with significant roles in ecological dynamics. The mere existence of rhino is essential to the conservation of other elements of biodiversity. Regardless of efforts put in place by stakeholders such as the government, non-profit organizations and other bodies, rhino populations are under severe stress. Unscrupulous greedy syndicates relentlessly slaughter rhino for their horn. Our role in ensuring that the poaching crime is brought to book defines the foundation of our organization. At ENVIRO CRIME SOLUTION, we are world leaders in the forensic investigation of poaching crime. By utilizing a combination of game ranging experience, tracking knowledge, animal behavior expertise and state of the art DNA systems such as the RhODIS DNA © database, we ensure that poaching crime is properly prosecuted and culprits are brought to book. Thru the course of our work we have branched out into major secondary projects all linked to poaching and the long term eradication of poaching. Thru targeted education, school education & feeding schemes as well as Marine protection programs we make an impact that reaches thousands of people every year. Our goal of making a lasting impact on the lives and future of those we come into contact with is a way of life for us and is the hallmark of everything we do at ENVIRO CRIME SOLUTIONS. Our work is relentless and as a dedicated group of people we never stop fighting. We face challenges far beyond the normal scope of mere conservationists. We are a dedicated group of people with a tenacity and dedication seldom matched anywhere in the world. In order to achieve our goal of ELIMINATING POACHING, we need financial resources to purchase the equipment and facilitate the various projects that we undertake. We rely on organizations, philanthropists, and corporates to help us finance the forensic, education, and community projects we spearhead. Through your financial assistance, you will be among the few heroes in our society who champion the survival of these incredible animals. YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE AND A MASSIVELY SIGNIFICANT IMPACT! NOT JUST TO ONE ANIMAL BUT LITERALLY TO THE SURVIVAL OF A SPECIES. OUR TARGETS While working at the root causes of poaching we simultaneously strive to reach as many people as positive with education, community and food gardens as possible. The programs listed below gives a brief overview of our main programs. As part of these programs we set the following measurable target criteria for each reporting year:  At least 3500 school going children reached with conservation education programs every year.  A minimum of 15 school vegetable gardens installed each year in identified underprivileged schools.  A minimum of 15 community vegetable gardens in areas affected by poaching.  6 Students (of which at least 5 are female) assisted in further education in conservation fields per year. FORENSIC INVESTIGATIONS: The primary program / focus of ENVIRO CRIME SOLUTIONS is the forensic investigation into poaching crimes. The primary area of our work is the South Eastern Part of South Africa in and around the Kruger National Park which hosts 75% of the world's rhino population. We have expanded into the Eastern Cape as a critical lack of resources in the conservation and prevention of poaching crimes has necessitated the expansion of our operations. On occasion, we work in areas away from our primary focus areas, but this is dictated on a needs basis where other law enforcement is not available. Evidence such as DNA of suspects, fingerprints, shoe imprints, ballistics and so forth is gathered and processed. Apart from human DNA the DNA of the rhino is obtained and entered into the RhODIS © DNA system. We have attended to more than 430 poaching scenes and have assisted authorities in creating solid cases against countless perpetrators. The main objectives of this program entail: • Processing the crime scene for evidence gathering. • Gathering criminal evidence such as fingerprints and human DNA • Determining the time & way the animal died • Gathering rhino DNA thru the RhODIS © system. • Linking cases to other investigations and determination of Modus Operandi. Although the work that we do relates closely to police forensics our expertise comes in the fields of animal behavior, animal necropsies, tracking & spoor and game ranging experience. Because of the combination of these skills and how they are used in unison our experience in this field unique and second to none in the world. YOUTH CONSERVATION EDUCATION At ENVIRO CRIME SOLUTIONS we strive to ensure that our impact is long term and that our efforts have a lasting impact. As part of this approach we identified the need to build future conservationists specifically from communities close to the parks and the animals we strive to protect. Our aim is to reach at least 3000 children with basic conservation education each and every year. As a result of our efforts to create a lasting benefit we identified a lack of proper intensive education and opportunities as a serious need in the local community. In many cases local people are unable to further their studies in nature due to economic and social disparities. Even though very often these individuals grew up with the animals and have a natural love for nature. By focusing our education programs specifically on the youth around the parks where our focus areas are we developed a program whereby we create a long lasting relationship with learners and have very specific targeted audiences. We mentor the youth and create environmental ambassadors who can be tomorrow’s champions for the preservation of our natural heritage. Our programmes are designed to create future mentors and peer educators who can spearhead the ZERO RHINO POACHING CHALLENGE within our community. Our main objectives with this project include: • Targeted approach with a view to continuous support • Exposing learners to opportunities that otherwise would have been unreachable • Target disadvantaged communities/learners • Assist learners with possible scholarships or educational assistance
