Mission Statement
Rainbow ECD Centre provides every child in our care the opportunity to thrive and receive quality education. We consistently provide a safe and secure environment that stimulates exploration and learning, preparing children adequately for school. Our trained teachers ensure that every child follows a structured education plan, helping them adjust to the fast pace of school life. We address various issues related to childrens physical, emotional and cognitive development through our programs, which enhance essential skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, memory, and language. Our ECD Centre also promotes physical health and well-being, brain development, improved social skills, better future educational outcomes, reduced dependency, and increased confidence.
About This Cause
The organization was registered in 2012 as a non-profit - 101-212 and public benefits organization - 930042673. The Rainbow ECD Centre was established in a dilapidated informal housing structure in the township of Masiphumelele. The situation was very challenging. For the young children in the community to thrive, receive nourishment, and learn, they require a safe, secure, and structured environment. Due to poverty, unemployment and substance abuse issues, rife in the community this was a significant undertaking. Not to mention the many refugees and asylum seekers needing care for the their children while securing employment. When parents are either seeking employment or abusing drugs and alcohol, it is quite common to find their children unsupervised and uncared for. After visiting our local primary school, we noticed how many additional challenges the children without early access to ECD face. They demonstrate lower academic achievement outcomes and exhibit poorer cognitive abilities. They also have less or no access to quality health care, adequate nutrition, basic water, and sanitation. With the assistance of the Coca Cola Foundation and Rotary Club - Newlands, we raised enough funds to build a Centre of Excellence that can accommodate up to 120 children. Overcoming some difficulties and setbacks, we managed to complete and occupy the building in 2016. It's heartbreaking to see that our children in South Africa are not receiving the early childhood education they deserve due to insufficient focus and funding. They deserve so much better, and we must work towards providing them with the support they need to thrive. The focus and financial input into Early Childhood Education in South Africa are noticeably lacking compared to the rest of the world. According to a national ECD Census in 2020, nearly 70% of South African children, under six years are not enrolled in any early learning program. This exacerbates an already struggling education system, with a current school dropout rate of over 50% due to inadequate preparation for primary school. We are dedicated to transforming lives by creating a safe, clean, and inclusive community where children can grow up with dreams of a thriving future. Our focus is on passionately nurturing and developing the youngest, smallest, and most vulnerable among us. We believe that every child has the potential to achieve something extraordinary with the right support and opportunities. We are seriously in need of funding for nutrition, teaching aids and resources, teacher training and much needed parent programs. We are looking for individuals and corporates to partner with us in delivering sustainable solutions for children in need.
