VISION Building on the legacy of Sister Ethel, of the Little Company of Mary, and all those who have contributed, we will create a caring, sustainable community-based organisation that provides enabling environments filled with optimism and hope, where our vulnerable community can develop and prosper. MISSION Our purpose is to play a key role in building up the individuals, families and the community, through key initiatives guided by our values. About This Cause
Missionvale is a shantytown on the outskirts of Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa. It is crippled by poverty, disease, drought and hunger. The Missionvale Care Centre is a non-profit organization operating in the midst of this. This community has a goldmine of potential, so we are moving away from a welfare approach, and incorporating more developmental and transformative tactics in our activities. Our Centre was founded by the world renowned humanitarian, Sister Ethel Normoyle, in 1988. It is now our mission to honour her legacy by ensuring the critical services continue with the same level of care and compassion she had become known for. We deliver sustainable solutions to challenges affecting our community. Today, we offer the following: • Education: Normoyle Primary School, Adult Basic Education & Training • Youth Development: Academic Support / Literacy Programs / Psycho-Social Support, Human Rights, healthy living programs, surf club, ballroom dancing, drama club, Legacy Art Project • Community Exchange System: Clothing Warehouse / Recycling through our Swop Shop initiative / Church & Community Hall / Christmas Cheer Projects • Impumelelo Training and Development Centre: New Venture Creation, Retail Training, vegetable garden, local women making crafts • Health & Wellbeing: Medical Centre incorporating General Consultations, Women’s Health, Physiotherapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Community Based Care Workers, HIV / Aids awareness, education & counselling, support groups, social work services, Nutrition and Wellness assistance, basic domestic animal care We are an approved Public Benefit Organisation and donations to the organisation are tax deductible. Donations directly impact on the lives of those who need it most and we are so grateful to you for becoming a part of that!
