About This Cause

Born To Prosper Community is an NPO located in Mangaung Metro. Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality is a Category A municipality. It is situated in the Free State Province, in the central interior of South Africa. The Free State is bordered by the Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and North West Provinces, as well as by the neighbouring country of Lesotho. Mangaung, meaning ‘Place of the Cheetahs', accentuates the vibrant, dynamic and energetic character of the tourism industry in the ‘At the Heart of it All'. The economy is strongly driven by the government sector, which has seen the fastest growth in the last five years as a result of increased government programmes in livelihoods improvement interventions. The finance sector is the second-fastest growing sector due to very active estate and construction activities. In an area such as Mangaung, with its high levels of unemployment and poverty, Non-Profit Organisations, such as Born To Prosper Community, have a major role to play in terms of employment creation, income generation and provision of services to communities, especially the vulnerable poor. The informal economy makes an important contribution to the economic and social life of Mangaung. Due to the decline in formal employment and consequent increase in unemployment, many people seek alternative means of earning an income. The National Development Plan and its mechanisms remains the road map to address these challenges against the back drop of economic growth constraints. The need for creation of employment is outlined on chapter 3 & 11 of the National Development Plan as a key contributor to reducing unemployment and providing social protection. According to Statistics South Africa, the unemployment rate in the Free State remains relatively high at 34 percentage points by end of Quarter 2 in 2018. The province has the highest unemployment rate in the country. Our most critical and most pressing challenge is youth unemployment; therefore, the President in the 2018 State of the Nation Address reminded that at the centre of our national agenda is the creation of jobs for our youth. The countries unemployment rate in the meantime rose to 27%. ORGANISATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY: The art and craft centre will be equipped to place women for sewing and art. It is primarily a sewing initiative, where women sew uniform, Personal Protective Equipment, fabrics, duvets, pillow covers, and traditional attire. The sewing centre is projected to grow from 6 to 20 in the next 3 years. The organisation will target exhibitions at various fairs organized by government and private sector to market its products. It will maintain fair prices, quick service and unexpected sparkle and flare to keep clients coming back for more. Born To Prosper Community distinguishes itself from primary competitors by being both a sewing and arts centre. Many competitors simply take in items and follow directions. But Born To Prosper Community works with clients to design fresh ideas and can also guide clients who lack artistic ideas. Another distinguishing factor is the culture that comes with the service.
