LifeLine Mafikeng is a registered NPO based in Mahikeng sub-district in the North West province, South Africa. The organization was established in 1995 and serves the community of Ngaka Modiri Molema district and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati districts. We are affiliated to LifeLine South Africa, which is our national office. In turn, LifeLine south Africa is affiliated o LifeLine International. Our programmes: HIV testing services (HTS), Stop Gender Based Violence (SGBV), Trauma debriefing, Training. 1. HTS - through this program we offer Community based HTS using mobile vehicle and Non-medical site. The service is rendered by a professional nurse (PN) and highly trained and skilled volunteer counselors. All clients are screened for TB and we also distribute male and female condoms. in addition, the PN also screens for Non -communicable Diseases (NCDs) i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol. We work closely with the local clinics and hospitals and all clients requiring further medical intervention are referred to the clinic of choice. 2. SGBV Under the SGBV, we have two projects i.e. Temporary shelter for victims of domestic violence and gender based violence. We only accommodate women and their children at the center (Mafikeng Crisis Center). Another project within GBV is the Thuthuzela Care Centers (TCC) which deals specifically with individuals that have been sexually assaulted. The TCCs are based at Mafikeng Provincial hospital and Taung district hospital. The survivors are seen by Social Auxilliary workers (SAW) , Counselors and Social Worker. The SAW and counselors offer emotional containment, HTS, adherence counseling, referral to forensic nurses/doctor, The SW provides the survivors with therapy and prepares them for court. Trauma debriefing Our counselors and nurses are trained to provide trauma debriefing to victims of crime. Training LifeLine Mafikeng trains individuals, NGOs, government employees. on the following courses; Personal Growth course, Basic counselling skills, Communication skills, HIV and AIDS Empowerment, GBV and IPV. We encourage unemployed youth, especially young women to attend our courses. After completing our courses, they volunteer as counselors within LifeLine and some get employment in other NGOs or government departments. All our services are provided for free. The organisation depends on funding to continue offering the services for free, Most of our clients come from rural areas and they are also unemployed.
