Mission Statement
VISION: To be a bright flame of hope for intellectually impaired adults, their parents and guardians and the broader community. MISSION: To satisfy the need for the care of intellectually impaired adults from all communities to a maximum. To offer the persons in our care a permanent home where their human nature can be fully developed, within the limitations of our care capabilities. SHARED VALUES: We are humbly proud of our identity and that which we achieve here, and we strive to instill this sense of pride and identity in all concerned on the basis of the following shared values: 1. We believe that every person is a unique being with worth, status and value and may therefore lay claim to unconditional recognition and respect. Therefore: • we are a non-racist, non-sexist institution that fully acknowledges freedom of religion. • we strive for the comprehensive upholding of the rights, freedoms and obligations that are also the disabled’s due. • we acknowledge that in no way do we have a lesser responsibility with regard to the humanity of the disabled. • we regard the care group as the most important people in the facility. 2. We believe that every person uniquely experiences and executes his/her human nature in relationships. Therefore: • we strive for the character of a balanced parental home where happiness, warmth and security can be experienced. • we welcome responsible religious involvement of and attention to our care group. • we strive for maximum personal and social development of each one in the care group. • we strive for healthy contact between our care group and nature. 3. We believe that each person experiences a multitude of life dimensions within the unbreakable unity of his/her human nature, and that these mutually influence one another as well as the complete quality of life. Therefore: • we strive for a holistic approach that recognises the importance of all facets of life such as intellectual, personal and social facets, but also physical facets such as nutrition, health, hygiene, sexuality, work, aesthetics, creativity, games and sport. • we recognise that none of these life dimensions may be seen in isolation of the entirety. 4. We believe that the uniqueness of a person also exists in his/her future direction and the ability to change and improve. Therefore: • we strive for the maximum development of all potential to grow towards greater independence. • we recognise the positive value of dreams, hopes, expectations, improvement and fulfilment in every person. 5. We believe that in order to do justice to the above, we must answer to the highest standards of • professional behaviour • unimpeachable integrity • an open and participatory management style • positive teamwork and mutual respect • strict financial management • maximising the abilities and talents of the care group and staff • ethical and moral integrity • close cooperation with parents and guardians • participation, empathy and ownership of all parties involved • cooperation with other institutions in the interests of Horizon House.
