Our mission Is to provide people with severe to profound intellectual and physical challenges with a structured daily programme, appropriate therapies, stimulation and developmental training to enable them to develop to their full potential.

About This Cause

Friends Day Centre is a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 006-245 and a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 13000 2579). The organisation is registered as a Community Mental Health Facility with The Western Cape Government Department of Health and is a member of the Western Cape Forum for Intellectual Disabilities. Friends Day Centre was established as a care and learning facility in 1959 by Lorna Ingram for her son, David, and 4 other children who had special needs in a space no larger than a double garage. From theses humble beginnings, Friends Day Centre has grown into a learning, therapeutic and care facility for up to 120 learners with severe and profound physical and intellectual disabilities, offering a suitable learning environment catering to our learners’ unique needs, before-care, after-care, holiday care, a variety of therapies, personal skills development programs as well as an array of other crucial programmes.
