Mission Statement

• Promotion of safe and healthy use of the Internet and other online technologies (video games, mobile phones...) and the development of active and responsible digital citizenship among children, adolescents, and youth through actions of information, awareness-raising, dissemination, research, and training, both in the social sphere and, especially, in the family and educational environments. • Protection of children and adolescents in matters related to new technologies, with the framework of reference being the Convention on the Rights of the Child. • Promotion of positive and enriching uses of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) among minors. • Promotion of ICT use to enhance the quality of life of citizens. • Reduction of the digital divide. • International Development Cooperation, incorporating ICT-based solutions. • Combating all forms of violence against women, especially that which occurs through or via ICT. • Value addition through the use of ICT in all kinds of social or educational initiatives. • Encouraging altruistic participation by citizens in social initiatives related to the promotion, dissemination, and use of ICT. • Promotion of equality through ICT, both as a tool and in the equal motivation of professionals in the field. • Promotion of ICT as a sector that enhances employability and social development. • Dissemination of the reality of ICT use and professional development in order to avoid stereotypes, negative prejudices, and existing inequalities in the collective imagination.

About This Cause

PantallasAmigas was born in 2004 with a global approach, developing actions in several countries in Europe and Latin America, to promote the safe and healthy use of new technologies and to encourage responsible digital citizenship in childhood and adolescence. Since 2010, it has also focused on preventing sexual violence and sexist behaviors among adolescents in new digital socialization and coexistence media. It stands out for its innovation and emphasis on promoting a culture of privacy as a right and a protective factor, as well as in developing skills for digital life. The creation of educational resources and programs, advocacy and awareness raising, training and help line are its main areas of activity. It has been recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality for its work in combating and preventing gender-based cyber violence in adolescence. It was summoned and appeared alongside 60 expert individuals before the members of the Sub-Commission for a State Pact against Gender Violence, established within the Equality Committee of the Congress of Deputies, to provide the entity's perspective on new digital communication contexts and their relationship in building a more egalitarian society free of gender-based violence. Since 2016, it has been a Trusted Partner of Twitter's 'Safety Council', collaborating closely for several years by advising and recommending improvements to help reduce cyberbullying situations on its platform. PantallasAmigas promotes the active participation of childs and adolescents in the promotion of safe, responsible, and healthy Internet use, enhancing opportunities and reducing threats. To achieve this, it promotes and defends the various rights that must be preserved for children in cyberspace. Among its main areas of action are the creation of educational resources, awareness-raising, training, and helplines. To achieve this, it has a multidisciplinary team of professionals composed of psychologists and educators with experience and theoretical training in gender approach, as well as a technical team (design, animation, programming, project management) involved in various educational digital projects, awareness campaigns, courses, and training sessions, among others. The different approaches of the participating team have allowed for the early identification of trends and threats on the Internet: in 2006, PantallasAmigas published the first guide on cyberbullying, in 2009 it launched an awareness campaign on YouTube for the prevention of risks related to sexting, and in 2010 it addressed the e-Legales guide on cybercrimes for families and educational centers. PantallasAmigas has a solid YouTube channel prominent in the world of Internet Safety, where it disseminates and shares 288 of its own educational video animations with over 187,000 subscribers, reaching over 79 million views (as of January 2024), giving it great visibility and standing out for its innovation and emphasis on promoting a culture of privacy as well as developing skills for digital life. As a notable example, the video animation created by PantallasAmigas in 2012 titled "Sextortion, a form of digital sexual violence", has 29 million views and over 1,000 comments on YouTube. It also has a PantallasAmigas profile on X (Twitter), which is followed by more than 43,000 people, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram, and the set of PantallasAmigas blogs receives over 3 million annual visits. In 2021, it also launched the podcast "Education, Citizenship, and Digital Well-being" hosted by Begoña Beristain, where professionals from various fields are interviewed. Already in its second season, it has aired 25 episodes, featuring, among others, Izaskun Landaida, director of Emakunde, Irune Muguruza, from Family and Childhood, “Gusi” Bertomeu, director of Artefinal Studio, Lorena Fernández, director of digital communication at the University of Deusto, and many others. The Spanish Data Protection Agency awarded PantallasAmigas in 2018 the prize for "Good educational practices in privacy and data protection for safe internet use." Additionally, PantallasAmigas received in 2017 the social responsibility award from the National Association of Experts in Technological Advocacy (ENATIC) for its dedicated work in raising awareness, educating, and researching for a safe and responsible use of technology in childhood and adolescence, the 2018 Cinema and Health Award from the Government of Aragon in the Global Initiative category, and the 2020 Internet Award for Digital Transformation awarded by Internet Day. These awards add to other recognitions received by PantallasAmigas for its awareness-raising work on social media, such as the DEIA Award for Best Community Manager or the YouTube Silver Button award.
