Mission Statement
We intend to promote that organizations and social movements share information, knowledge and technical resources for the effective and strategic use of ICT, especially in the Internet, in a sustainable and respectful way with the diversity and values of local culture and society and global. In its statutes the activity of the organization is reflected in the fulfillment of the following objectives: > Promote the use of telecommunications and information technology among people and organizations that work for education, health, peace, cooperation , development, the environment, human rights, non-discrimination for reasons of sex, ethnicity, origin or beliefs, and social justice in general. > Promote participation in the new information and communication technologies (ICTs) of women, immigrants, people in rural areas or developing countries, or any group excluded or at risk of exclusion. > Offer the advances in telecommunications and IT in an affordable way, making maximum access and use of these services easier, in order to streamline and expand contacts with local and international people and organizations. > Any other purpose, specifically not indicated in these statutes, but which contributes to the knowledge, application and development of activities related to the use of information technology and telecommunications.
About This Cause
Pangea.org we are the leading Catalan organization in putting internet and information and communication technologies (ICT) at the service of organizations, movements and people who work for social justice, women's rights, development sustainable and cultural diversity on a local and international scale. We were born in 1993 as a private, independent and non-profit organization, to promote that organizations and social movements share information, knowledge and technical resources for the strategic use of the Internet and ICT in a sustainable and respectful way with the diversity and values of local and global culture and society. 25 years later, we have a community of 300 organizations and 400 people from networks and social movements associated with Pangea. We have participated in some sixty projects to promote social and gender inclusion and environmental sustainability through the Internet and ICT. We have given technical support for free and supportive to a dozen campaigns and social and citizen events at the Catalan, state and international level. We participate in networks such as the XES (Solidarity Economy Network of Catalonia); the APC (Association for the Progress of Communications); the EDRI (European Association for Digital Rights); EXO (the Association for the Expansion of the Open, Free and Neutral Network). We are much more than an internet service provider In Pangea, we provide internet services to more than 700 associations, NGOs, entities, networks and people linked to the Catalan, state and international social movements that work for culture and education; the defense of peace and human rights (HRH), economic, social and cultural rights; the local, ecologist, feminist movement and the rights of women and LGBT (of lesbians, gays, trans, bisexual and intersexual); access to health; social and labor insertion; accompaniment to youth, childhood and adolescence; international solidarity and horizontal cooperation; the social economy and solidarity; fair trade and conscious, responsible and transformative consumption and digital rights and access to free, open and neutral telecommunications networks. Unlike the large multinationals in the sector, in Pangea, we are committed to a conscious, ethical, solidary and transformative use of the network and ICT, both in our internal operation and in the products we offer. We are an organization with a horizontal and democratic structure. We apply wage equity and gender parity in our work team. We offer internet services at sustainable prices that help us stay and be independent of external financing, as well as being able to support other projects and campaigns in solidarity. At Pangea we offer and manage mailboxes, programming and web hosting, distribution list management, news agendas and services, registration and hosting of domains, databases and secure servers. We have a daily technical support and advice service, telephone and personalized email and adapted to the needs of each partner. We do not provide information about the tastes and behaviors of our partners for commercial or advertising purposes and we protect your data as provided by the Spanish Data Protection Law, since we host our servers in Guifi.net, a telecommunications network Community, open and neutral that has the data center in Barcelona. We promote the technological sovereignty to break the dependence of large multinational companies in the sector. We promote the freedom of users in the face of commercial interests with services such as e-mails with stable capacity and quality or webpage hosting with open and free software that allow our partners not to bind to any digital platform. We want the entities and people associated to Pangea and the general public to seize and be autonomous in the use of technology. For this reason, we offer training courses at cost and high quality on topics related to the Internet and ICT and free software (webpage design, GNU / Linux operating systems, PHP programming language or collaborative tools such as Drupal or Moodle).
