Mission Statement
The objectives indicated in the Association's statutes are: ARTICLE 2.- The existence of this association has the following purposes: a) Education and social and labor integration of children and youth at risk b) The human and integral promotion of people at risk of social exclusion and / or marginalization c) Educate in values and promote in children, adolescents and young attitudes that lead them towards healthy, respectful and committed ways of life with the society in which they live, enhancing the values of availability, generosity, delivery and service, and sensitivity towards the others. d) Accompany children, adolescents and young people at risk and their families in their educational, maturation and integration process, offering them support and presenting them with life alternatives. Specific Objectives: from these general objectives we can mention as specific objectives the following: • Strengthen coexistence: promote the idea of equality between people, whatever their origin and problems. Teach to live together, to deal with each other. Inculcate the tolerance value. • Expand their life horizons: that children leave their environment for a while, that they see alternatives to the ways of life in which they have immersed themselves. That they know other places, other people, other environments, other ways to have fun, etc. • Raise your self-esteem: that they feel the center of something, that they feel they are important. Cultivate your self-esteem, which is almost always very low. • Individualized knowledge: take advantage of living together to meet them, talk with them, learn about their life, their problems; establish a relationship of trust that serves as the basis for the work to be done. • Educate for health: insist on basic behavior patterns related to hygiene, food, drug addiction prevention, unwanted pregnancies, etc. • Develop social skills: help them learn to express their feelings and desires, to communicate with others, to discover their skills and how to develop them. • That they know nature and learn to respect it. • Offer the young people of Majadahonda a different way of using their free time, raising awareness of the needs of those around them, making them aware of the different cultures that children represent and promoting responsibility, availability and delivery in personal contact with children, as well as attitudes committed to justice and the lives of the most needy people.
About This Cause
Asociación Kairós de Majadahonda KAIRÓS ASSOCIATION: LEISURE ACTIVITIES WITH MINORS AT RISK OF EXCLUSION AND / OR MARGINALIZATION Kariós is an association that works with 30 children and teenagers between 5 and 15 years old, at risk of social exclusion, and their families from Madrid (Spain). All the children participating in the activities of the association have similar characteristics despite their different origin: - Unstructured families - Lack of healthy reference models - Affective deficiencies - Low economic resources - Close coexistence, in the neighborhood or in the family, with marginal situations, mostly related to drug addiction and crime - Lack of job prospects and vital horizons The interventions with the children and their families is carried out in two ways: - Accompaning the children and their families on a weekly basis. - Organizing leisure activities for the children once a month, in order to provide them with alternative leisure options. The activities that are carried out can be grouped in two: • Monthly leisure activities. It consists of carrying out a free time activity once month. Some of the activities that are planned during the course of 2019-2020 are: visits to interactive museums, bowling, field trips, ice skating, etc. • Weekend outings and summer camp. Each year there are two weekend trips and a summer camp, which replace the monthly activity. The weekend trips will take place from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon on weekends next to Christmas and Easter. The summer camp will be held the last 10 days of July. In these three activities the main thing is that children will sleep outside the home with the volunteers, which allows a deeper understanding of the topics that are covered. Summer camp take place in Peguerinos (Ávila, Spain) and it is the activity most appreciated by children. Children of the association of all ages will attend these activities, although the activities, games and reflection topics are adapted to their different needs. These activities are carried out thanks to the work of volunteers who meet once a month to organize all these activities and deal with the problems of the families.
