Mission Statement

Our mission is to defend and promote the Human Rights and equality of lesbian, gay, trans, bisexual, intersex and other sexual and gender diversities, (LGTBI+) as well as their families in all areas of life (social , health, labor, educational, cultural, etc.) paying special attention to the members of the most vulnerable groups such as women, trans people, children, youth, adolescence, the elderly, people with HIV, those who who perform sex work or migrant and/or racialized people, among others. And we do it from a perspective of rights, diversity, universality and free of charge. In addition, we work to strengthen and unify the LGTBI+ associative movement of the Spanish State from a networking approach and a secular and secular, transversal, progressive, transfeminist, non-partisan and non-unionist perspective. All these indicated elements are in tune with the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, as it could not be otherwise, given that the FELGTBI+ in its objectives also pursues and collaborates in the creation of a better society, more sustainable and fairer for all people. Our vision is of a world in which all people have the same rights regardless of their sexual orientation and their gender identity and/or expression, sexual characteristics, their corporeality, whether they have HIV, their place of origin, culture, religion , their age, their belonging to an LGTBI+ family, their management of pleasure, their job occupation, socioeconomic situation or any other intersection that crosses them at the international, state, regional, provincial, insular, regional or municipal levels; a world in which LGTBI+ people, allies and their families have their dignity and their right to full personal development guaranteed.

About This Cause

By history, by trajectory, by structure, by the number of associations that make it up, by the contributions made in these years we can affirm that the FELGTBI+ is the most important referent of the lesbian, gay, transsexual and bisexual association movement in Spain. The State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals is, above all, a space for coordination and exchange for the LGBT associative movement. It is a common project of more than 55 associations, of all kinds, of big and small cities, of almost all the autonomous communities, of students, youth, athletes, transsexuals, people with disabilities, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual women , people living with HIV, LGBT believers, migrants ... Up to now, there are three backbone of the FELGTBI+: the demand for legal equality and social respect towards affective-sexual diversity, awareness and denunciation, which includes the annual LGTB+ State Pride celebration, and the training of and activists from its member associations. The FELGTBI+ organizes reflection and debate days each year that work on topics such as health and HIV, international cooperation or education, and meetings of young people, families, lesbian, transsexual, bisexual or believing policies where to define and share strategies, formulas and experiences. It also offers care and support services to LGBT youth and families, job counseling, coordinates the Education Network for talks on sexual diversity in educational centers and supports a demand strategy with a unitary voice that is determined in the Congresses in which the associations participate member every three years. The Federation works with public administrations, political parties, unions and social organizations to achieve the inclusion of measures aimed at equality such as law 3/2007 on the change of registry of the name and sex of transsexual people, the law on equal treatment or the modification of the Civil Code that brought equality in same-sex marriage in 2005. Recently, in 2023, the FELGTBI + has achieved the approval of the new state legislation for effective equality of trans people and guarantee of the LGTBI rights, popularly known as Law 4/2023 "Law LGTBI + and Trans". The federal structure coordinates, but the initiative and work is also of the member entities that pool their work and their activists, who actively participate in the federal areas, so that all the activities or campaigns of any of the associations can be used by all the entities of the FELGTB, and these host the material of the Federation to work with it throughout the State. The FELGTBI+ is maintained economically thanks to state public subsidies, the fees of each entity based on the number of members / partners and their annual budget, and occasional donations from private entities or companies.
