About This Cause
“Norte Joven” (Northern Youth) Cultural Association is a non-profit organization that was established in 1985 and declared of public utility in 1993. Its mission is to promote social and professional integration of socially disadvantaged people through training, employment opportunities and societal awareness. It has three training centers for employment: Fuencarral-El Pardo (C / Ribadavia, 20 28029 Madrid), Villa de Vallecas (C / Peña Veiga, s / n. 28031 Madrid) and Alcobendas (C / Alicante, No.6 28100 Alcobendas. Madrid). Norte Joven works to generate second chances for those between 16 and 25 years, mostly young people, belonging to groups with special difficulties (from socioeconomically vulnerable environments) to achieve inclusión in society. Although each student has different specific and personal circumstances, as a starting point they all have a history of school failure. In its 35 years of activity, more than 10.400 people have been helped since the Association began. In the centers, personalized and free comprehensive training is offered and students can sign up throughout the year (in total, there are 187 seats). The following is offered: • vocational training (training in trades: carpentry, waiters, kitchen, business, electricity, plumbing and building maintenance) • basic cultural education (preparation for participants to obtain the Certificate in Mandatory Secondary Education) • and activities for personal and social development (socio-labor training skills, development of skills, values education, health education, etc.). If anything defines Norte Joven, it is its voluntary soul, convinced that civil society has much to contribute to fight against exclusion. Volunteers colaborate through concrete actions such as teaching support, job skills training, etc.
