About This Cause
Zelmerlöw & Björkman Foundation (ZBF) is a fundraising foundation founded by Måns Zelmerlöw and Jonas Björkman in 2013. We empower youth in parts of Africa from a life in isolation and poverty to one with employment and a feeling of independence. This happens primarily through education and entrepreneurship, which is fully in line with several of the UN’s Global Goals, especially Global Goal number 4: Quality Education. Together with local partners, we identify youth living in slums and ensure they have access to the best prerequisites to gain an education and identifying their talents and what drives them so they can influence their own futures. For the Zelmerlöw & Björkman Foundation, it is important to reach the most vulnerable youth in the areas in which we are operate. We therefore focus on girls and young women who frequently are not only the most vulnerable but are also those with the most potential for a positive change that will also affect their families and communities. We create belief in the future through education, good health and a sense of security. ZBF’s main focus going forward is the Kenswed-model that we work with in Kenya. Education is the foundation of the model. In addition to a theoretical education, the model includes other values such as a sense of security, healthcare and that basic human needs are satisfied for youth in difficult societal conditions in order for them to find what drives them and allows them to lift themselves out of poverty. The Kenswed-model is led by local partners, which is a prerequisite to achieving long-term results. Today it consists of the Kenswed Academy high school, a boarding school for girls to ensure their participation in school, a dining hall, a well for water to provide students and their nearby families with fresh water, sports, creative activities, scholarships for higher education and the health- and maternity clinic Kenswed Hospital. The next step in the Kenswed-model is to start a vocational school, Kenswed Vocational Training Center (KTVC) in order to offer more students a post-secondary education. A vocational school provide practical learning that easier leads to employment.
