Mission Statement
Wikimedia CH's mission is to collect, curate and disseminate free knowledge and in the process, to promote the work of the Wikimedia project's contributors. Our objective is to help Swiss memory institutions share their knowledge, collections and curatorial resources digitally with a global community through a global platform – all this to make the (Swiss) cultural heritage and its diversity more accessible to the world. Furthermore, we aim to sensitise all levels of education to a sustainable use of digital information and to advocate for free knowledge, also at the political level. About This Cause
Since May 2016, we at Wikimedia CH bring people together with the aim of disseminating free knowledge for a smart and open society. We enable Wikipedians to share knowledge and connect them with the Wikimedia universe. We are a collaborative and accountable association representing the interests of our multilingual communities in Switzerland. Wikimedia CH carries out a variety of programmes in collaboration with institutions and partners and offers training on the use, creation and editing of content for Wikipedia and other Wikimedia platforms. Our plans are both ambitious and essential, with initiatives focusing on the following core areas: 1. Education: At its core, Wikimedia CH is involved in education, with our goal being to bring free educational content to the world. Our actions focus on bringing added value to teachers and learners in Switzerland. Progamme Education embraces the concept of continuous learning for all, not just for the next generation of Wikipedians. 2. Community: In Switzerland, there is a growing community of volunteers who add content to Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, and other projects run by the Wikimedia Foundation. Wikimedia CH provides a wide range of services to support the work of the volunteers. We invite you to join. 3. GLAM: The acronym GLAM stands for “Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums”. Our mission is to help Swiss memory institutions share their curatorial knowledge, collections and resources in a digital manner, on global platforms, making Swiss cultural heritage more accessible to the world. 4. Outreach: Beyond our programmatic activities, Wikimedia CH advocates for issues such as copyright and net neutrality – values that are important to us as part of the Wikimedia Movement. We will continue to align ourselves with the political direction and stance of the Wikimedia Foundation and other chapters. 5. Innovation: With the speed of change increasing, open-mindedness, flexibility, creativity and proactivity are the keys to success. Created in 2022, the Innovation Lab is an experimentation space for innovative ideas, tools, and models around various focus areas (i.e. climate change, education, GLAM, etc.). The concept is in line with the wider Wikimedia Movement strategy. Across those programmes, we have a number of projects and initiatives, such as "Care Forward". Our Care Forward initiative embraces a holistic approach to building a more sustainable and inclusive future in close collaboration with the global Wikimedia Movement. Our work as an association has always supported a more knowledgeable society, which in turn helps lead to a better future for all. You can find more details on our Website: https://wikimedia.ch/en/care-forward/ If you'd like to support us on a regular basis and if you support the values we stand for, you can become association member.
